So you're wondering, "what's so special about his car?"
This is a rare limited edition McLaren Turbo Grand Prix. They were made for only two model years, 1989 and 1990. Production numbers vary depending on who you ask. Some people say there were only 500 made. Some people claim only 1000, 1500, or 2000 were made. Other stats say 3725 were built in '89 and 3750 were built in '90. Nobody seems to know for sure, but everyone has a guess. Whatever the production numbers, this is one rare car. I've never seen another one like it where I live. It was the only car to get the 3.1L intercooled turbo V6 which was designed and developed by McLaren Engines, Inc. The options list for this car was very small, because almost everything was standard. Almost all TGP's are equipped with power moonroof, leather seating, anti-lock brakes, steering wheel radio controls, Trip Computer, Digital Compass, and Head Up Display. The TGP also got a TGP-specific instrument cluster and stiffer springs specific to the TGP. The TGP is also the only Grand Prix to get 245-wide tires as standard equipment. The ground-effects and wheel flare package was also unique to the TGP in '89 and '90. An easy way to spot the TGP (aside from the gold "TURBO" emblems) is the front end. Although the same ground-effects and wheel flares were carried over in '91-93 as the B4U package on the GT and GTP, there is one obvious difference: the TGP has a completely different front fascia. The TGP has the flush-mounted composite headlamps with integrated yellow fog lamps that were used on the '88-90 SE's, while the '91-93 w/B4U has countersunk mini-quad headlamps. Lastly, the TGP had a higher sticker price than any Grand Prix in history at just over $25,000.

What else is special about this car?
Performance potential! As with any forced-induction engine, increasing performance is a matter of simply increasing boost. A Turbo Grand Prix with minor mods (primarily just increasing boost via a new chip) has allowed for 1/4-mile runs in the THIRTEENS, 0-60 near 5-seconds. That's with the tiny stock Garrett T25 turbo. Throw more mods at the engine and upgrade the turbo, it's possible to get 500+ HP out of this engine. It has been done.
