Stereo System
My TGP has the factory Delco CD player in it. The CD player is a little beat up, the volume button has a hole in it, and 3 EQ slider knobs are missing. All the buttons have faint hairline cracks in them. However, it works fine and only cost $25 from the junkyard. The only good things about it is that the steering controls work perfectly, illumination matches, and the fluorescent display is very bright and easy to read. Other than that, as far as car stereos go, it really sucks. The sound quality isn't very good, the CD player doesn't even have shuffle play or repeat modes, and the thing sticks out just like an aftermarket GM-fit CD player would have anyway.
I was originally thinking that since the TGP is kind of a "collector's car", I wanted to have the factory CD player in it. I'm not so sure about that anymore because it's really not that nice. I guess for $25, I got my money's worth, but I think I would like someday to upgrade to the Alpine CDA-D855 1.5-DIN GM-fit AM/FM CD player. I would then like to hook up an Alpine MiniDisc changer to it. A PAC SWI-5 adapter can probably get the thing to work with the steering wheel controls. It would look a lot better in the dash than the factory stereo, as well as sounding better with more useful features too. Another option is to use a regular single-DIN stereo and put something useful in the remaining 1/2-DIN space like a Greddy Turbo Timer or a better turbo boost gauge or something like that. Oh well, for now the $25 Delco CD player is good enough.
If you're wondering why I had to track down a CD player at all, the reason is because the previous owner had the original factory CD player removed for some strange reason, and had a really crappy Pyramid aftermarket stereo put in! The thing was the biggest joke... manual tuning, no presets, cassette player that only can EJECT and FFWD. Sad thing is they chopped off the factory wire harness and antenna connector to splice that piece of garbage in. I couldn't stand seeing cheap crappy electronics spoiling the interior of an otherwise fine automobile, so I yanked that Pyramid out even before I had a new stereo for it. For awhile, I had no stereo in it at all, but any empty hole was better than looking at some cheap piece of crap in the dash.
