TGP Parts Cross Reference

Created February 18, 2000

One of the biggest pains of having a rare TGP is the fact that many parts are discontinued and hard to find. Even if they weren't discontinued, GM charges a fortune for them. Here is a cross reference of parts and sources for hard to find or discontinued parts.

Crossover Pipe, GM Part #12397801. This part retails for $1,441.62 and is available from GM Parts Direct for $986.06 shipped! Unfortunately, even brand new pipes have been known to crack after 3-6 months. I believe all TGP's with the original GM crossover pipe have cracks in the flexible bellows. Jeff Middaugh (a189pgt at earthlink dot net) sells repaired crossover pipes for $425+exchange (More info about Jeff's Pipes here). Alternatively, if you're on a tight budget, any good exhaust shop should be able to replace the cracked flexible bellows with straight pipe for around $140. Do not expect an exhaust shop to be able to use T-409 grade stainless, however, as most exhaust shops only deal with aluminized steel. (1/24/03)

Turbocharger, Garrett Airesearch TB2528, part #465939-2.

Bolts, Turbocharger and down pipe. GM Part #10028651 or 10032187. These bolts are no longer available, but any standard 10.9 grade 8mm (Thread Width) x 1.25mm (Pitch) x 25mm (Thread Length) bolt will work. They are available from any local Pep Boys, in the bulk hardware bin for $0.49/each.

Modulator Check Valve, GM Part #12397852, has been discontinued and is no longer available. However, the 93+ HVAC check valve is an identical part. It probably will not include the proper rubber fittings, but your existing fittings should transfer over if undamaged. The HVAC valve is GM Part #14056648 and is available from GM Dealers for around $2.62.

Cooling Fan Motor, RH Puller. GM Part #22092046 (15-8429). This is a redesigned cooling fan motor which uses a right-hand threaded nut instead of the original clip. If your fan motor is still original (unlikely), then you will also need a new fan blade, GM Part #22119446. If you find out that that you do have the original fan and fan motor, and you don't want to spend the big bucks to replace it, you can probably find cooling fan motors that use the clip at a salvage yard. The '91 Regal with 3800, and '91 Cutlass with the 3.4 DOHC engines originally came with cooling fan motors that used the clip (however, their updated fan motors also use the RH threaded nut).
