skiiirt
Well I took the cutty in to a local stealership to have them run some tests and see whats wrong with my car. Unfortunately they must have reset the computer before scanning the codes because they told me they have found nothing. The car appears to only be firing 4 out of 6 cyl, The car not only vibrates but shakes at idle. We have been fixing vaccuum leaks and whatnot but the stealership says they cannot pinpoint my problem. The vaccum leaks appear to solve the problem temporarily but the car manages to keep misfiring. They say even with an error code it could be a wire along the way that is causing the problem. I want them to replace the ICM but the guy doesnt seem to think that is the problem. They also did the Idle Relearn. but if its not firing right whats the point. Now they also told me alot of the wires in my car are old and wearing, this could be the problem. Should I replace all the wiring (hoses too)? Or is that just another money grabber? Anyone have any suggestions? Both the dealership and me are at a loss, they say its basically a problem that only investing money can solve. They claim they can only keep fixing things as they go along, hopefully fixing the right thing. I dont know, maybe i should go to a mechanic who works on cutlasses. White93z34
Now they also told me alot of the wires in my car are old and wearing, this could be the problem. Should I replace all the wiring (hoses too)? Or is that just another money grabber? thats a crock, the only wires that really "wear out" are sparkplug wires, the only times i have seen wireing wear out is in 30+ year old cars. vaccum hose is cheep, just replace what you see is cracked. that cracks me up at how they are saying well we just gotta keep replaceing parts till its fixed, run far away from that place, they aren't mechanics they simply replace parts, a mechanic can diagnose problems without makeing you throw money at a problem to fix it. without seeing or being there first hand i can't really help you diagnose it, so why not start a list of what alls been replaced thus far so we can help you. skiiirt
Replaced/New:Engine, Power Steering Pump, Computer PROM was replaced in '00 Besides that the car has run pretty well The car has had a history of long crank times and stalling. I cant really be of much help because the car hasnt had much done to it. Maybe thats the reason? Its basically a stock Cutlass Supreme
White93z34
so you have no idea how many miles your plugs/wires got on em? that may be a starting point, i know it solved my misfireing problem. i'd get your coil packs tested along with your ICM. track down any vaccum leaks you have and replace the hose / tube
skiiirt
Ok the engines was replaced in May. So the plugs/wires are about 5 months old 5000KM. I was told they are unable to test the ICM. If you know a way I can test just the ICM I'd gladly try it. I think we've stopped all vacuum leaks, but I cant be 100% sure, since i havent seen the car in 24hrs I think im gunna find a better mechanic
mfewtrail
History of long crank times and stalling, that particular problem sounds like the crank position sensor($13 for a new AC Delco one at advance auto parts). That wouldn't explain the "not firing on two cylinders" problem though. What two cylinders seem to be misfiring or do you know?. If the two misfiring are paired on the same coil, then that particular coil is most likely your problem.
90moddedtgp
i have not ever heard of anyone going to the dealership and getting a good deal i would ask around and find a good honest mechanic or find a friend that knows what he is doing
skiiirt
Ok well the damage report...estimate.. is in Apparently the ECM is faulty. Says its causing the ICM to mess up. Also the fuel pump is pushing low pressure, that needs replacing. The front left hub, but i knew that one. The starter is in need of replacement.. and also apparently a gasket is leaking because they found oil in my plugs. Guess I'm glad the engine is on warrantee. So before parts (ECM fuel pump) the total would be around $920 CAD Good thing I can get cheap parts
