pimpinprix94
i am wanting new mufflers and tips for my '94 grand prix and it has a 3100 in it. what would be the best for a good price...im not wanting to spend $100 on one muffler but i want a good sound and it to be louder than what it is with the stock exhaust. any suggestions? Canada
Are you wanting just mufflers for sound or an entire exhaust (manifold back)?

EurosportZ34
Flowmasters sound great on the 3.1....40 series are the loud ones that I'll prolly be getting pretty soon.
midnight rider
have a "y" pipe installed to split it into duals and install 2 12" glasspacks and chrome 3" tips. It will rumble like a big block
THe_DeTAiL3R
93CutlassSupreme has a 3.1, not a 3100... they sound different. Personally I DON'T like the sound of Flowmaster on a 3100, I can't say for a 3.1 for sure but I do like 93CutlassSupreme's sound clip.. I am also wanting mufflers (and tips) for my 95 3100.. keep us posted on what you decide to get. I'm thinking Magnaflow since many people here like them... Canada
From attending the last two BereFests I;ve had the chance to listen to many of a muffler.........most of the time they sound like shit. Not to toot my own horn here, but I really like by Dynomax Ultraflo (straight through, prefored core).......its quiet and smooth......however, there is a slight crackle when the throttle is closed.....but overall it does sound better than ANY of the chambered mufflers (pretty much anything made by Flowmaster) out there....they simple sound like a tinny pile of shit. THe_DeTAiL3R
What I want is an exhaust that sounds good at idle, at WOT, and is very quite at 2-3k RPM cruising speed. Loud exhaust going 60mph annoys the hell out of me.
rudefyet
have a "y" pipe installed to split it into duals and install 2 12" glasspacks and chrome 3" tips. 93CutlassSupreme
go with flowmasters from a sound standpoint, well, listen to some clips. i have one if you interested. they're deeper and rumble much more than mangaflows. whoever says flowmaster mufflers sound like tin cans are full of shit. they're the deepest sounding mufflers i've personally heard. from a price standpoint, you'll pay $70-80 max for a new 40 series, and less off ebay or other online discount stores. also, many more performance, and plain auto parts stores stock flowmaster products than mangaflow products. i don't know of any store in my immediate area that stocks mangaflows, they all have to be ordered. we all know how that goes sometimes. from a looks standpoint, i'd get single circular tips. imo, larger single tips look better than smaller dual tips. i didn't say fartcan big, you know what i mean. in the end, go with what you want. hopefully nobody gets flamed in this thread, and you make a decision you're happy with. Canada
Flowmasters sound good, yes.............but only if you have 8 cylinders of fury. I;ve heard 3400s, 3100s, 3.1L MPFI, 2.2s, and Quad 4s with the same muffler (Flowmaster 40 series).......and they all can blow me.

THe_DeTAiL3R
I listened to your clip and thats not enough to make a decision on buying mufflers. I'm not gonna say that a 3.1 sounds like shit cause I think they sound cool with almost any muffler (IMO of course) and the 2.8 is an even better sounding engine.. The 3100 is a different beast though and I personally think that Flowmaster sounds like tinny garbage on it (3100), and its really loud inside the car which I don't like. 94CutlassSLCoupe
Its too bad there aren't more clips with the 3100 with aftermarket exaust...I will agree though...the 2.8 Multi-Port sounds awesome for how little power it has
Canada
These links may or may not work anymore........but they are a 3100 with 2.25" mandrel bent pipe, a Thrush glasspack, and a Dynomax ultraflo muffler..... http://www.3100beretta.netfirms.com/Idle.MPG http://www.3100beretta.netfirms.com/Revs1.MPG http://www.3100beretta.netfirms.com/Revs2.MPG Personally, I don't care what an exhaust sounds like......as long as it flows well (something chambered or louvered core mufflers don't do). I also really don't care what you think......so no one else should care what I think.

gp90se
Dont worry about it, i think ya car sounds like shit 2 if the compression was raised or bigger piping was used, i think it would be a little more throatyer of corse, IMO

pimpinprix94
thanks for all the help guys. i really appreciate it. although i didn't mean to start any fights...sorry..i used to have a '91 cavy Z24 with a 3.1 and i cut the cat out and put a magnaflow on it with a 3.5" tip and i loved the sound of it...it was a little too loud at times...but i liked the loud sound....man i miss that car...the only reason why i got rid of it is cuz my mom gave me her '94 grand prix as a graduation gift...if i could have afforded the insurance i would have kept both...i think i might check back into magnaflow because they are only $35 for one muffler and thats what i got for my cavy and the local auto parts store have them in stock. as far as the "y" pipe...i already have a "y" pipe with dual exhaust...i if someone could give me a sound clip of the magnaflow and then the glasspack then i would really appreciate it...i want to see what they sound like at idle, acceleration, and deceleration. thanks for all the help again guys...thanks for helping a newby out...i don't know too much about the grand prix's with the 3100 but i know quite a bit about the cavy's with the 3.1 considering i had one for 2 years and everything that could possibly go wrong with it did. thanks again for all the help.
