91cutty
I know the 282 will work for sure but will a 284 work with the 3.1? Also, as for a clutch, master cylinder, and shifter.... would the ones from a j or l body work?

91cutty
Only reason I was looking at a 284 is because there's one for sale here in Winnipeg for $400 canadian and the car had pretty low mileage. Would a 282 from a j or l body + w body axle shafts work?
henschman
It would bolt up to yours and if you could get it workin it would hold more hp... but for repair cost reasons, you could just buy a 282 and put on a new disk and pressure plate like they sell on westcoastfieros.com and would probably be cheaper to do anyway. 91cutty
Thanks for your guys' input. I chose to go with an auto instead which was 200 cheaper! Anyone know if I really need a slide hammer to pull the axles from the tranny like it says in the haynes manual, or will a prybar work? At the junkyard when we pulled my subframe, I just cut the boot and the whole damn axle just came RIGHT off..
91cutty
I plan on re-using my axles so i don't think that will be an option!
Guest TurboSedan
i quit using a slide hammer. mine is just way too big for the job - it's a 9lb'er from Harbor Freight. i accidentally pulled a CV boot off with it once when pulling an axle so i gave up on it. for now i use a 12" long 1/2" drive extension and a big hammer. smack the back side of the inner CV joint housing with the extension and hammer and it should pop right out with minimal force. works nicely
