when i installed the UB3 i noticed the tach was not working...but at the time was not caring too much as i had the rest of it working fine and dandy.

now i want to get the tach to work.

here are pics of the UB3 in my cutlass.

http://mncable.net/~muzkman/images/

yes it is alot of miles, but did not care too much as i wanted the cluster and this was the first i came across. and it was pretty cheap too. $50 from a upullit.

so i reread the directions

and i did a quick search here.

and what i learned is that the tach gets its signal from the C13 connection.

is this correct?

if so where do i get that signal from and how do i connect it to the UB3 cluster?

thank you

i should have said the UB3 receives the tach signal on C13...

C13 is correct right?

how do i get the wire to stay?

dunno why with my car audio hobby but i am hesitant to splice into wires in the cutlass.

but if i want the tach i will have to i guess

i have the same wire strippers also, awsome strippers, good from small wires, dont try and strip 12 guage or bigger also they will snap. thats the only down fall is that they are made out of plastic and cant handle heave grade wire.

Cool, I'll have to drop by Sears. I always spliced wires the slow painful way... with a pocket knife scoring the wire on both sides and then slitting the insulation straight down the middle, then using fingernails to pick it off!

You could buy the correct crimp terminal. I think O'Reilly Auto Parts has them. Or you can go to the JY and nab a wire with terminal on it.

I think some people have even had good luck just jamming a bare wire into the hole to where it makes contact with the pin.

i was thinking the jam method, but not sure how well that would hold up over time...

have i said how much i enjoy the looks of the UB3 cluster?

well i think it just rocks.

i do have another Q though.

on startup all the lights should light up correct?

then once it does its test only some should stay on.

i do not recall the SES light coming on...

guess i will have to look at that.

go to ther u pull it and cut off the connector from the harness........ you shouldbe able to pull the connector out by putting a paper clip in the recieving end....... like how us base lumina cluster guys put guage clusters in

Yeah....

What I think he's saying is- get another harness and wiring (a few inches) and remove a pin/wire from the harness so you can hook the aldl wire to it and shove it in yours.

i figured as much...

just took it as i replied to it.

but

i remembered when i got the UB3 cluster i took the connector as well.

so tonight i pulled an orange one out of it and ran me some red wire to the orange on the diag port and WALA i have a tach now.

had to take the lower dash apart to make life a little easier but now my UB3 cluster is fully functional.

thanx

ok so i put some progress and finished pics up.

along with a torn interior pic.

man i need to get that fixed as it is an eyesore

so what is this connector for? 2 wires. balck and green/black stripe

http://mncable.net/~muzkman/images/UB3clusterincutlass012reduced.jpg

as you can see i labeled the wires for ease of relocation. as well as the red wire ran for the tach behind the cluster.

all back together

cropped with tach working now

torn interior

but dangit

the SES light still does not come on during startup.

pulled the bulb and it looked good.

so i dunno

thank you Shawn.

and i just happen to have purchased one from Davis.

as for the SES...

i was thinking today that mayb i need to check for codes to see if it works at all...

could be a burnt bulb. did not have my multimeter downstairs so i could not check to see if the bulb was good or not.

i do have a DIS on the way from Davis sooo when that comes i will be tearing things apart so i will investigate more at that time.

you supposed to take it easy mang....

just removing wires and not showing off to win a girls affection...

;)

well lemme see here...

at this moment i plan to keep the connector.

weather and time permitting i want to hit the yard to do some parts hunting. if i happen to remember to get one you can have it for shipping...

but would prolly be cheaper for you to hit the yard for one. as this is a pcoket item as well as the cutters to get it.
