3.8 coolant temp sensor... where is it?

I got this coolant temp sensor because my temp gauge isn't working. I went to replace (where I thought it was on the top of the engine), and the electrical connection doesn't fit. Where is the temp sensor? I have checked and it is a specific for this model car, but the connection will just not fit. It has the same shape, but my connection is bigger. What is going on?

Here's what I wrote regarding the location of the sensor:

OK, I scanned in some pics from 4 different manuals. The 92 LeSabre FSM only showed an illustration of where it was (it looks like a bolt.)
