slick Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Yes, i used the damn search function, but with over 700 matches, i said fuck it. Will a 2.8/3.1 work with my 3.4, as long as i put my FFP chip in it? I'm think it will, but i wanted to be sure before I went out to the JY. Quote
joey b Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 thought the 3.1 ECM would not work with the 3.4 because the LQ1 needs more RAM. Quote
patgizz Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 need one that came with a 4t60E bingo i ran a 94 3.1 ecm w/ my 91 3.4 chip in it for 2 years with the dohc. Quote
slick Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 Hmm... Gotcha. So i guess i'll have to crawl under the car at the yard then? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 So I was half right. If you know what years got which tranny's you won't need to crawl under the car. Quote
slick Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 I pretty much know what got what, but when a car is sitting at a yard for a long while, you kinda can't tell what year it is anymore Now, another question. Say i did get a ecm that was for the 4t60, it would probably cause problems, wouldn't it? Quote
maybe2fast Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 the ECM wouldn't comtrol the tranny hense the E for electronic... Quote
Robby1870 Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 Not sure if it would cause problems but the ECM for a DOHC car needs to know what gear the tranny is in, and if you use a ECM from a 4T60 car, it wont know what gear its in. An easy way to check the year of a car is to look at the VIN number. The 10th digit is the year. N = 1992 --> start from there vowels and Q arent used. 8th digit is the motor if you're curious Quote
slick Posted August 1, 2004 Author Report Posted August 1, 2004 Hmmm.. Well Don, if that one that your getting is a 4t60, i'll just pop it in and let the car sit and idle for a while. I don't have to be in drive for the damn thing so die Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 93+ 3.1's had the 4T60E, vin p is 93 Quote
slick Posted August 2, 2004 Author Report Posted August 2, 2004 Hmm... I'll have to remember all of this. Good info! Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 93 3.1 ECM is the ONLY 3.1 ECM you can use. And yes, the car has to have a 4T60-E, 93 was the only year the 3.1 was used with the 4T60-E. Quote
