Jcrow
Would 2.8 Fiero exhaust manifolds bolt to 1989 3.1 heads? The reason is because it looks like they only have one outlet each (unlike my '89 cutlass where the rear manifold has the outlet going to the exhaust pipe). When converting to turbo I would have to plug this downpipe hole. If I can fit fiero manifolds It would be similar to TGP manifolds where there is only one outlet per side. gp90se
take a pic of you can, but yes, a fiero manifold will bolt onto any 2.8/3.1 head. -Jeff
Jcrow
I just read on 60degreev6.com That the fiero heads are iron and the bolt pattern is different, but then some other guy over there says it works?
Intlcutlass
They will NOT fit. The fiero v6 has iron heads with a different pattern. Those manifolds will not bolt up to an aluminum head, And trust me... you don't want them too either. Fiero stock manifolds are of the crappiest quality you will ever find. BIG freggen restrictions, and half of them are cracked anyway.
Guest TurboSedan
how about using the Fiero iron heads on a GEN-2 block? didn't Curtis Walker do that? you'd probably need custom pistons for the right CR but Fiero iron heads and Fiero exhaust manifolds could be an option for a custom turbocharged 60* V6 build. maybe the Fiero exhaust manifolds could be ported? oh well, just an idea....it really isn't that hard to find a TGP rear manifold anyway. manitcor
easiest way would be a blocking plate for the rear manifold. Prettiest is a custom rear manifold.
Guest TurboSedan
When converting to turbo I would have to plug this downpipe hole. i've thought about that too...but how would one go about doing this? also, could the downpipe hole on a NA 2.8/3.1 rear exhaust manifold be used/modified for an external wastegate (if using a different turbo obviously). could that cause the rear bank of cylinders to lean out? Jcrow
I think what i'm going to do is just cut the down pipe off the rear manifold and cut a circle out with a hole saw and weld it as a cap over the pipe. I was playing around with where the turbo is going to fit, and it looks like i'm going to have to relocate the battery to the trunk.
manitcor
Good idea jcrow, Im helping a friend with a trubo on a 3400 and thats what he is doing, just making a blocking plate. He welded a cylinder of metal on the plate which goes into the manifold yo decrease the turblance caused by the hole. Not sure if his idea will work but we shall see. The block plate will work fine.
