Cone filters:

me and a friend took a few different 3" intakes, hacked and welded them together and wrapped it in a shield to make a custom cold air. the filter is midway through, has a closed shield, and we mounted a velocity stack where the left foglight used to be. message me for pics. it has helped, me and all my friends notice a difference.

i don't mean to disagrre with you guys but i made a cia with a cone on the end and routed it outside the engine bay and i have noticed a difference. It may not have any dyno credit but you can definately tell when you are driving at wide open throttle. thats just an opion i have not a fact

I have both a hacked airbox w/K&N and a short run intake with shielded cone filter.

Having switched between the two recently (just got K&N back with my stolen/recovered Lumi) I have to say that the most improvement is with the cone filter, especially when punching it while cruising. I had a friend go with me on runs with both intake setups and he says the same.

Although being a 5-spd now the loss in torque is probably less evident than with the auto, as I'm not forced to start off from idle. It may also be that the free flow exhaust on my car works better with a less restrictive intake.

I guess I'll have to try both setups on the other lum as it's all stock and see what results I get there. I'd also consider the fact that a K&N is double the cost of a cone filter and completely useless if you remove the stock air box.
