stockgp
i'm having trouble getting my car to start with the new interior harness. it's a 93 gp 3.1 engine in a 90 gp with a 97 cutlass interior harness and steering column. anyone know which wires i would need to splice into to put maybe a starer switch in so i could just flip the key and hit the switch. everything on the inside turns on with the key, but the engine won't crank. DiscoStudd
Sounds like the ignition switch is either faulty or out of position. First thing, remove the ignition switch (not the lock cylinder) from the column and insert a small screwdriver into the slot where the rod from the column goes. Cycle the switch through all of the positions and see if the car will start. If it does, then the switch is good. Reinstall on the column and adjust its postion so it will start the car with the key (the switch will slide up or down when the bolts are loose for adjustment.) You might lose the "accessory" function when you get it in the proper postion, but "accessory" is trivial anyways...
stockgp
just so we are clear, that will work for a 97 ign. switch too?
DiscoStudd
If it's from a 97 Cutty, Loomie, or Monte, then yes. I'm talking about the 94-up (Gen 1 and 1.5 W's)"Saginaw" style columns. I've had a couple of them apart myself. Here's a pic with the signal lever and steering wheel removed:
