Corvette has a 4L60-E........4 speed automatic. They *might* have something different for planned for the C6.

The Allison automatic used in 2500 and 3500 C/K trucks behind the 8100 and 6.6L Duramax is a 5 speed auto.

I can't make sense out of what GP Crazy is asking........the benefits of another gear? Simple....it gives the ability to have a tighter gear set.....plus, it sounds exotic.

Those gear ratios are for the 5 speed MANUAL found in the Mazda 6 V6.

They DO have a 5 speed auto, but not with those ratios (and I'm to lazy to go look them up right now :D ).

I'm pretty sure the only 5 speed auto GM offers right now is the Allison HD 5 speed AT in the HD trucks. Maybe the XLR has one. However, GM and Ford (and Toyota?) are currently working on a 6 speed transverse AT together. Yeah, GM and Ford, WTF?

BTW, Mercedes has a 7 speed AT.

they do not want to make things last. think about it the slower the powertrain turns the longer it will last right? so if last 2,3,4 hundred thousand miles they don't sell automobile's.

yep a 6 or even 7 speed transvers transaxel would be just be radical!

now if you were to make these tranny's what gear ratios would you use?

i would make 5 0.71 and 6 0.62 fial drive of 2.18 - 2.50

just a thought

It's in probably every major car magazine out (that isn't brand specific)

They're releasing it in the new SLK350, along with other cars.

FYI: its also already available in 2003+ S-Classes and CL-Classes...probably SL-Classes as well... we were SO close to getting a 2003 S500 that was fully loaded at an auction but we lost the bidding war...lol...anyway... I'm not sure but I think the S500 we have is either 5 or 6 speed right now...and i'd say it has nice gearing....

I don't think anybody is planning a transverse 7 speed auto. I hope not. What's the point? It's like a gear/pissing contest. Some kid once told me that his 66 Mustang had a 7 speed auto and a 5.0 motor from a cop car. Yeah... PRND321, 7 gear selections maybe.

Wow 7-speed auto... wouldn't the parts wear out faster than a 4 or 5 speed auto? I mean the damn thing would always be changing gears in the city, unless those extra gears are for the highway to get better mileage or faster top speed..

well I just checked and the our S is a 5-speed....but as for the gear wearing issue....I don't think its really a big deal...because when you think about it....you could say the same about a 3 or 4 speed... in a 3 speed, you spend a lot of time in one gear... in a 4 speed, you're either accelerating in 1st or 2nd, picking up speed in 3rd or crusing in 4th....if you need to pass on the highway, you'll hit 3rd gear...i dunno maybe i'm just really tired...but it makes some sense to me... with more gears you can always be in the right gear at the right time, and with a drive-by-wire system controlling the throttle....the computer can read exactly what you want to do by how fast your foot is moving (along with whatever else it does,) and pick the appropriate gear, and accelerate the way you want it to. Technology moves forward not only because it can, or as a 'pissing contest', but because its making advances in the industry as you know it. A car that can pretty much read the driver's mind? not a bad idea...

anyway....just my 2.5 cents...
