xtremesupreme
Guys, I did a search for this and I'm confused. I have the 3100 engine and some people were saying its impossible, and some were saying it wasn't. Whats the deal here? Can it be done, and how hard? Also I saw some people swapped complete brake peddle assemblies to ones with clutch peddles on them, and other people used regular brake peddle assembly and cut down the brake peddle. What did the people who cut down the stock brake peddle do about the clutch peddle mounting and so forth. Any help and clarification is greatly appreciated! dsgrntld187
From what I've picked up since registering here, it's very hard to do the swap into a 94+ car, but some have done it. Maybe he'll see this and reply.
rudefyet
i don't see why not you'd need all the tranny parts and a computer from a 5-speed 3100 J or L body should work
dsgrntld187
Well I heard the difficult part was the Clutch pedal, but maybe I'm wrong. Which cars were L bodies?
rudefyet
Which cars were L bodies? Beretta and Corsica
cutlassdude96
you would need the 3.1 ecm for it to work
god910
you would need the 3.1 ecm for it to work Nah, like was said, before, just a 3100 PCM w/ the 5 speed. It was like SoccermomGTP or something Sorry, can't remember the guy, but it's been done.

xtremesupreme
Hey Guys, I talked to a mechanic friend of mine and he said you could jump out the switch on the auto shifter to make the ecm think it is in neutral. Then drop in the Getrag 282 and you only had to hook up the VSS(vehicle speed sensor), and maybe a few other things. I suppose the hard part is getting the clutch to work correctly, and mounting it, which I need help with.
THe_DeTAiL3R
Its not impossible, but definatly a custom job! I don't know much about PCMS/ECMS, except that the 94+ w-bodies never came with 5-speeds, I have no idea about 3100 Berettas but that would probably be a good way to go.. brian89gp
Its not fun and to do it right requires taking out the whole dash. http://www.brian89gp.com/transmission/5spd.htm Travis (soccar...) did the swap as well, and some guy on this forum with a 96 GP that lives near Sullivan MO. For the computer part, manual tranny cars are very very picky about IAC and throttle follower settings. Use an auto chip and do whatever foolery to not get a SES light, the thing will buck, stall, jump in and out of decel and DFCO, and otherwise be a pain to drive. bluegp
There's a guy on a Beretta forum with a 3.4/5-speed Beretta that used the ECM from a 4th gen Camaro 3.4/5-speed; he said the only problem he had was with the speedo being off. Didn't some 3rd gen Camaros have a 3.1/5-speed combo?
94CutlassSLCoupe
3rd gens did have a 3.1 multi port 4-speed....but we're talking about the 3100 which is a completely different animal as far as electronics go.
