I wanna swap my 3.1 to a 3.8

Ok i have been thinking about this for a while to swap from my 3.1 to a 3.8 what are the necessary things i need will i also need to get a new tranny and axel ? Thanks ahead of time.

better to just buy wreck w-body that been t boned or rearended if your going to do a swap :wink:

 

I know that much i have been looking but as far as in parts what am i gonna need will i have to upgrade the entire frontend u know lil things like that.

When MyMonte.com comes back up tomorrow (hopefully), check around and search on there. There have been a few members that have done that swap. Although, swaping to the 3400 may be a bit more logical choice. All the wiring and everything bolt up exactly the same as the 3100. Just pull the 3100 and drop in the 3400. If all you want is an L36 in your Loomie, then ditch it and buy another Loomie that has the L36 (can you say "cop car?") The 3400 would be easiest to swap in, though if you don't want to get rid of your ride...

I dont wanna get rid of her i like my loomie all i need to do is fix up my bumper and hood and the A/C and ill be set.

 

Why don't you fix that stuff first?

In already on it i just found a bumper and hood on good old EBAY.

Swap a 3.4 DOHC in there, it'd be easier cause it was an option on your car.

 

That's just my .02 cents.

What transmission comes with the 3.4 if its 4t60e i want nothing to do with it.

what's your problem with the 4T60E?

 

if you don't abuse it and actually change the fluid, it can be a very reliable trans

 

many members here have over 100K on the original 4T60E

 

i have 91K on mine, and no trouble yet

I have about 130k on it now i just dont like it its already been rebuilt.

any reason you hate it?

 

 

getting 130 K out of a trans sounds pretty good to me. some engines don't last that long

 

I just despise it now after the rebuilt its just not the same anymore and i really want a 3.8 i always liked them better my old man had a 99 GT for a while i loved the way it handles.

sounds like a bad rebuild. that's not the 4T60E's fault
