BIGBULS
is the sunbird 3.1 with a 5 speed the same as the GP's 282 as in gear ratio it's a 1992. also it has a red plastic cap on the dip stick you just pull on it and pull out the stick. the fluid looked clear had no grit in it.it was sitting at pick n pull in auburn ny 13021. motor & tranny & everything that went with it that was as of tuesday this week. HM-282's in W-Body's got the following gear ratios: 1st 3.77 2nd 2.19 3rd 1.38 4th 1.03 5th 0.81 In J and L Body's they got a different setup (lighter cars and smaller diameter tires): 1st 3.50 2nd 2.05 3rd 1.38 4th 0.94 5th 0.72 Both have the same 3.61 axle ratio though. Coincidently, the gear ratios in the W Body cars are EXACTLY the same as 1991 Quad 4 HO's got (and 91 ONLY). Either way, while the J and L Body cars got better overall gear SPACING (to match the MFI engine's powerband), they are geared a little too long overall when matched with the W-Body's heavier weight and tall tires. I'd hold out for a W-Body specific trans unless you plan on forced induction in the future.
