GrandPrix34
Mainly the #6 plug wire, when I pull the plug from the spark plug when the engine is on, in the dark I can see the wire arcing to the other wires and at the coil tower. Actually, when I pull any wires, they seem to leak current to anything near...can this truly be faulty wires or is it at the Coil where the problem is? Cracked coil maybe? WhiteOut
Simply detaching the spark plug end of the wire should never cause arching. If you had removed the plug and left it attached to the wire then arching would occur, but an unattached boot should not cause arching. I'd say replace the wires. DOHCRagtopguy
A sure symptom of wires that need replacing, I concur.
GrandPrix34
damn, just bought these Taylor 8mm wires...damn it! But is it possible its because of the way the DIS is designed?

WhiteOut
The wire alone should never, as in NEVER EVER, cause an ark. If there were a plug attached to the wire then yes, you would see arching between the plug and the engine or other surrounding metal parts, but thats not the case from what I read. If your wires are arching then something is seriously wrong with them.
GrandPrix34
when attached to the plug they dont leak though...only when pulled. What gives? Can this affect me at high RPM's, say a 1/4 mile run? I got a meet the 16th so I am doing as much as possible to the car.
WhiteOut
If they leak unattached, they leak when attached. Its just that the plug provides less resistance so most of the electricity goes throught the plug. Try removing other wires to see if they do the same thing. I think you'll find that they don't. And if thats the case you need to replace the wires again, it may not be dire, but it is a good idea.
GrandPrix34
so here's another question: Will that result in a lower 1/4 time by alot or have not much effect at all?
WhiteOut
so here's another question: Will that result in a lower 1/4 time by alot or have not much effect at all? Its hard to say with out testing the electrical system to see how much current is leaking. If you don't notice a problem when the car is running though its probably having a negligable effect on things.
