Blackamp;White
Greetings all! Brand new here, but have been soaking up the board info for the last two years. Just a tidbit of advice for anyone that cleans their engine bays on a regular basis. 3.4DOHC and water don't mix well, heheh! I'm in the process of trying to buy a 92' Cutty International 4dr with the 3.4L and they cleaned the engine bay. including what appears to be the spark plug connectors! Obvisously not intentional but Ugh! Today was the 3rd time we've tried starting the poor thing. Sorta runs, but apparantly on only 4 cyls.... ugh. Anyway, we got it running, but not well. We still think it's wet spark plugs, since we pulled out the back left two spark plugs (3 and 5?) and idle or running condition didn't change. It runs better without injector #2 plugged in also LOL! Darned 3.4! Anyway, anyone think it may be something else? I've wanted a 3.4 for about 2 years now and now I really want this car! 43,000 miles on the thing (a little TOO low in my personal opinion) I didn't stay in time to get the 3 & 5 plug dried off, but I think that was their next work. That, and then double check the injectors. hehe, I haven't even bought the thing and my hands are all greasy from working o nthe motor with their mechanic and sales person. I'll post more about the car in General... needless to say if anyone has ideas on what else it may be, I'd like to hear em! Nice to meet you all. SmokesGTP
I don't care what anyone says, a pressure washer or hose would never find it's way into my engine bay on any car I ever own.
GrandPrix34
From pesronal experience, everytime i put a hose to my DOHC, it stutters and stumbles like a mofo. THat and the VOLTS reading shoots up till like 18 and the car runs like complete and utter shit...aside of that, car looks nice and clean! What I do know is use some black tape and napkins and tape off the spark plug holes. Also I put bags over the air filter and on the lower portion by the coils. The last bag I put horizonatlly to block water froom reaching the alternator.... either way, the alternator still gets wet and goes all crazy and shit. After that I have to let the car run like shit for about maybe 15min then it gets better.
Slade901
Put the car outside where it is exposed to the sunlight and open the hood and leave it open for a couple of hours and make sure you close down the hood if is going to rain in a few hours. If you have an air compressor then use it with an air hose gun and direct the air pressure around the spark plug area to expel any water and areas that water might stay when washing your vehicle. Intimidatorz34
Water in the shafts around the plugs, pull the wires and stick some paper towels in there for a day or two.....The orings that seal the wires around the cam covers are shot. I had the same thing happen with my car when i first got it.
Blackamp;White
Ah ok. Yeah these look like the original plug wires and plugs... with that low of mileage I certainly would assume everything is original... accept maybe the alternator, heh! Were the original plug wires red "Packard" units on the LQ1?
topless94style
Ive washed my engine with a hose every couple weeks when its not winter, and never once have i had a problem.
Blackamp;White
I wonder if that doesn't cuase enough pressure to get water where it shouldn't be. Either that or it's a hit and miss thing. In any case, the car is not even on the lot anymore, I think they took it in to a shop to get fixed, or some other dude baught it right then and there after they got it running that afternoon. Ah well...
SUPERDUTYD
start the car in darkness and see if you can see spark leaking from the wires.
Blackamp;White
Welp! It lives! It was a bad #1 injector. Apparently, the injector was sending a bad signal back to the ECM, thus causing the car to not start. The car started as soon as the injector was unplugged, albiet running badly. They had the injector replaced and now the thing runs great! I was amazed how much standing start throttle response the motor had. Of course midrange seemed a touch less than my 3100 car, but it was pretty decent non the less. Holy cow the car is tight and rattle free! It's brand new! Absolutely everything worked on it accept a blown out left fog light (don't they all in such short time). All of the climate controls, moon roof, power everything worked flawlessly. Ride wise, it's solid as a rock. It makes my 97' feel like something from the 70's. So! I'm moving on it.
