cryptnix
If I take it to the power washer ... what do I not aim towards? (minus the obvious like plugs/wires ICM/Coils AIR filter ... etc) Do I do with it running? I'm going to get my 35% tint and putting it on myself ... $50 right now is just a bit steap right now ... (life sucks) so, while I do that if you folks suggest something different other than power washing it please tell me!!
Guest TurboSedan
i usually blast the hell out of everything and just avoid the alternator and coil packs. i've never had a problem. usually i soak everything down with the degreaser first (and maybe some Simple Green), then wash the car, and then use high pressure rinse to blast the degreaser off the engine. i've always cleaned the engine with the car off. i usually hold the sprayer like 4ft from the engine while i'm rinsing it with high pressure so i don't damage anything. WhiteOut
Go to your local parts store and pick up a can of Steam Premium by GUMOut. Its like $2.50 or something and it works great. All you do is spray it on and hose it off with a light amount of water. You don't have to scrub or anything, it did a fantastic job on my engine bay when I first fot my car and I don't think it had been cleaned in years. The best part is that it works by emulsifying the grease/dirt, so its not highly alkaline like a lot of other degreasers, and that means that it won't hurt aluminum or rubber/plastic parts under your hood, not to mention its safe on painted surfaces. Good stuff, plus it won't cost any more than going to the car wash and pressure washing.
EurosportZ34
Get some water in a bucket and wipe it down with a rag. That is what I did to my engines and they look very good. Given I keep them cleaned about once a week and they were never extremely dirty to begin with.
