Fuel Pump diagnostics?

car won't run when revved, cut out under slight load, or just won't run at all. low or no fuel pressure at fuel rail. mine just quit completely when it crapped out...the car wouldn't run at all.

turn the key to 'on' (don't start) and listen for the fuel pump (it should come on for about 1 second). i think there is a test connector on the fuel pump wiring harness but i've never used it myself...maybe someone else here knows more about that...

Check out the W-Body FAQ, question 2:

After applying voltage to the test connector, if the pump runs, then replace the relay.

That is exactly what it is doing. Thank you VERY much for helping me out, this problem has kept my car off the road for several months... Thank you.

Are you sure it's the pump and not the filter? I thought my fuel pump was dead but really it was just the filter. Good thing I didn't go through all the effort of replacing the pump!

Heres a little fuel pump story i should tell you for about 2months my car would every couple days sputter or not start at all then while driving it would sputter. and i never though it was the fuel pump but sure enough an ex mechanic for GM who use to work on my car back in the early 90's told me fuel pumps dont always just die they get weak so he checked my fuel pressure and there was next to no fuel pressure at all. It took me about 4 hours and 55 bucks to change it. not to hard considering i had never changed one that sat inside the gas tank before.

I put in a fuel filter a couple months ago, it hasn't been driven since then, it's essentially new. I though that might have been the problem, so I fixed it. I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator, less than a month ago.
