dsgrntld187
All of a sudden theres an oil leak in my Cutlass Supreme. I just had an oil change, and it's leaking about a tablespoon every 2 hours. Any ideas of what it could be? Thanks, Spencer
Heza
wheres it coming from? is the oil filter tightened down? oil pan drain screw tightened? thats where id check if it just started leaking after an oil change.
dsgrntld187
I'm hoping thats all it is. I can't afford to have new gaskets put in.
god910
Could just be oil in the subframe.
dsgrntld187
It seems like a little much to be oil in the subframe. After 2 hours, it leaked a tablespoon of oil, then when I got home from work at 11 (didn't take my car), it had ran over the edge of the cardboard, so I don't exactly know how much more ran off. Dannymik
I would check the oil filter to see if there isn't any running down the black plastic cover. I remember a certain garage changing my oil in the Cutlass when I 1st bought her and having a oil leak problem. I don't think they tightened the filter enough and didn't lubricate the black rubber ring on the top of the filter before installing it. Then again these guys are certified mechanics so go figure! god910
The old filter gasket could have stayed and they double gasketed it. Seen it a dozen times. I'd loosen it up, and retighten it. Or better yet, TAKE THAT MUTHA BACK!! They did the change, it's there responsibility. You might get the next one free.
93CutlassSupreme
you better hope the oil filter isn't double gasketed. the gaskets will blow out and you will loose your oil pressure i know a guy who burned up a Dodge 360 when a grease monkey place did that. he lost oil presure so fast, the engine was gone by the time he could pull over and turn the ignition off. dsgrntld187
I found the source of the problem. Right where the drain plug meets the pan it is leaking. I tried to tighten it, but it was really tight. I'm thinking its stripped out. Its sorta slowed down, but it's still leaking. Thanks guys. Heza
go back and bitch at the fucks that stripped out that bolt. i would. oil pans arent the easiest things to replace on a W-body.
dsgrntld187
Well I would bitch at them but I work there so I'd get fired for yelling at them . Fortunately, they will fix it for free no questions though.
dsgrntld187
Stupid bitch of a car is still leaking. I had the drain plug gasket replaced because there wasn't one left, but it's still leaking around the same area. Tried to tighten it, no movement. Any other ideas? GPdriver1986
I have a similar problem except that I thought it was leaking from the drain plug except it wasn't. The only reason why it looks like it leaks from the drain plug is because the drain plug is the lowest point on the engine. You could make a rubber gasket from an old rad hose and use that to fix the leak.

dsgrntld187
We're thinking right now it may be the oil pan. The drain plug is just fine now I think, so I don't know..
joey b
a friend of mine took her car in for an oil change on her 3100 a couple of years ago and they tightened the oil bolt so much that it cracked the pan.
dsgrntld187
Well I wonder if that's what happened.. How much does it cost to have a new 3100 oil pan put in?
GPdriver1986
Its expensive, I asked my auto teacher how hard would it be to change an oil pan on the 3.1 MPFI, he said its really hard because you need to lift up the engine.
dsgrntld187
God damnit, I took it back in today. Lower Intake Manifold Gasket. How much does it cost to have that done with the labor charge at 75.00 an hour?
Dannymik
 wow...I never seen that happen on the 3100's
dsgrntld187
OK I took it in, and the lower intake manifold gasket is leaking, slightly, but not that bad. They need to replace the oil pan, which is fine by me.
