stockgp Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 just so everyone knows what these questions are about, i am converting my 90 gp se interior to a 97 cutty leather interior. if anyone has wiring schematics for these two cars i would greatly appreciate it. so, three questions: 1.-in a 97 cutty with digital climate control, what do the four wires that plug into the heater core do, individually, by color if possible. 2.-in a 90 gp, what do those same 4 wires do, individually, by color. 3- in a 97 cutty with amplified factory system, which wires run TO the speakers FROM the amp? (i have to run new wires To the speakers myself) oh and i have pics of my radio, climate control, and gauges all lit up and my leather back seat installed, but http://www.clubphoto.com is being messed up so i can't post the pics tonight. oh last thing... I HAVE A POWER PASSENGER SEAT AND YOU DON"T Quote
stockgp Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 finally got my pics up from last night. you can't really tell, but the gauges are lit and the radio and climate controls are lit too Quote
DiscoStudd Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004  Wow! I just have to stand back in amazement. :worship: You, my friend, are a braver soul than I. I don't have an answer to your question, but I'd like to know a couple of things. First off, I'd assume the 97 dash and column bolt up to the 90 firewall with no problems, but did you have to make new harnesses and such for the 97's accessories? Or did you just disconnect the 90's dash harness and replace it with the 97's? I'm just curious how difficult the whole project was 'cause I've always wondered if it could be done. Quote
stockgp Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 no the dash doesn't bolt right in, nor does the column. the top of the 97 dash bolts into place by the windshield like the 90. the bottom i have to weld a plate in because later w's had an extruded metal side that the dash bolted to in front of the e brake on the drivers side. on the passenger side same story. the steering column bolts in at the bottom by the firewall, but at the top the 90 column has a 7 and 1/4" bolt pattern and the 97 has 6 and 1/2". so i'm drilling and tapping new holes in the plate, eyeballing the center since it's a little hard to measure (that's what all the metal shavings are on the floor by the inst. cluster). for the accessories, i'm using an entire 97 cs interior wiring harness. that's why i need to know the wires cuz i need to make the 97 harness work my 90's climate control, power locks, speakers and headlights. so far everything else works like the power windows, tail lights, etc. so in no way is this an easy task. i'm only doing this cuz i had to replace my motor (blown head gasket), and my buddy happened to have a cutty sitting around that he just wanted the motor from. he gave me all this stuff for next to nothing. and i love digital stuff. the only part of this that was easy was making my passenger leather seat power. oh and i made the cutty gauges light up red instead of blue. stockgp Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 oh and anyone with an hud for sale i'm interested. Quote
stockgp Posted June 28, 2004 Author Report Posted June 28, 2004 any help at all guys? i'm kind of at a standstill until i get some info from somewhere Quote
DiscoStudd Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 Have you tried looking up the wiring diagrams at your local public Library? I know a FSM would have the schematics as well. Just my $.02 ... Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 yep tried a few local libraries and founf nothing. FSM? lost me on that one Quote
digitaloutsider Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 :worship: I'M NOT WORTHYYY! You have some MAJOR balls to be attempting something like this.. Way to go man. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 yep tried a few local libraries and founf nothing. FSM? lost me on that one Sorry about that. Factory Service Manual... That's strange that the Library has nothing. The one I go to has huge shop manuals by Jacobs or Helm (can't remember the name exactly.) They also have the books that give estimates on how long a repair should take so the shop knows what to charge for labor... Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 oh. i even tried stealerships to see if i could buy or at the very least xerox the schematics, but they said 97 is too old for them to have around and 90 is ancient. and about the libraries, this is west by god virginia. i guess some people here are still allergic to reading. any other ideas where i could get a factory service manual other than ebay? Quote
DiscoStudd Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Try Factory Auto Manuals dot com . They're expensive as hell ($80 for the 95 W-Body set) but they have them in stock... Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 i'm trying to stay away from the on-line thing. my c-card is about maxed from all the parts i've been buying. i'm going to try some more stealerships and see what i can find . but hey guy thanks. at least you tried to point me in some kind of direction. i appreciate it much Quote
DiscoStudd Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 You're welcome. I know what it's like to change things around on a car that nobody's tried before. Sometimes you have to really sit and think things through when no one's there to help. Good luck on your dash project. Be sure to post lots of pics when you're finished! Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 i will. hopefully it will be soon Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 missed your post digital outsider. thank you. and yes, my balls are larger than most Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 are jacobs and helm the authors of those books, or are those company names? Quote
godofthunder Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 how did the power pass. seat get done...i was thinking bout doing that once Quote
stockgp Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 i had a power driver's seat and switched the tracks. then i had some plates welded on to hold the seatback-tilt lever and the plastic trim in place. after that all you need is a template from the other seat to cut holes for your control switches into the plastic trim. voila oh and you need to run a power plug to the passenger side. Quote
cutlsp Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 what if your car already has the power passenger seat plug i know my 1988 cutlass the white one does have it at least Quote
stockgp Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Posted July 11, 2004 i'm going to assume you mean the plug for the lumbar controls. yeah if your seats were the power adjustable lumbar seats, you will have A plug. however, it's not the right one. if you look under the driver's seat, there's a two-wire plug that has(i believe) an orange and a black wire. that is the power and ground for the power-adjustable tracks. so you would need to go to a j/y and get the plug out of a car there to run to the passenger side of your car. Quote
cutlsp Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 no its a 2 wire plug and it does not have the lumbar support :? i know my car is a freak  Quote
stockgp Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Posted July 11, 2004 well, then i guess if you wanted to do it the quick, easy way...you could just get a power driver's seat and bolt and plug it in. if not, then you would have to get a passenger and driver's seat and switch the tracks then weld a plate for the tilt lever to bolt to and then another for the plastic trim to bolt to. i believe the plastic trim on the other side can be attached using a self-tapping screw. then just cut out your holes for the switch assembly and you're done Quote
cutlsp Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 you think i'm gonna put all that work into my daily driver i'm crazy but not that insane Quote
stockgp Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Posted July 11, 2004 well i don't mind all the work. my daily driver is also my baby. i enjoy tearing into her to see what i can change around. i love this kind of work. keeps my mind busy Quote
