Guest Anonymous Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 when i switched to synthetic, i went one quart of synthetic at a time per oil change. 3.5 regular/1 synthetic, next oil change 2.5 regular. 2 synthetic, etc. I thought about that also. Does Mobile 1 make non-synthetic that I can mix the syn. with? Also, I use Lucas oil stabilizer. Will 1 qt. of that, 3 qts. of regular oil and 1 qt. of synthetic be ok to mix? Quote
NeverSayDie Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 The crud I was talking about was everywhere, heads, lifter valley, pan, all of it full of crud! Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 The crud I was talking about was everywhere, heads, lifter valley, pan, all of it full of crud! Interesting! There was ZERO crud in my Cutlass' engine when I tore the heads off it at 168k miles. I had run Castrol GTX 100% up to that point. Since then I've switched to Wal-Mart SuperTech (after learning Castrol is a sleazy company, calling Group III oils "synthetic"), but maybe I shouldn't have! I have pics too, my engine was CLEAN! Maybe this was a few years ago before motor oil passed the GF2 spec? Quote
Brian P Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 I'll second that! Ive opened up my motor a couple of times, and just recently at 165k, NO sludge at all, nowhere! I did 3000-3500 mile oil changes with Quaker state oil, and just recently switched to Mobil synthetic blend. I got the car with 83k so for the last 82k it's been driven a lot...I doubled its mileage in less than 3 years. I think the long drives help with engine cleanliness too. Quote
NeverSayDie Posted September 18, 2002 Report Posted September 18, 2002 Well, I suppose I am destined to live a life of crud...'cept for when I get finished building my engine...I'mgonna change the oil wevery week I guess Quote
