conley3.1
I have a 92 Lumina 3.1. It's a POS, and it's a long story, so it's going to be a long post. Right now, it has a problem that I just can't figure out. The car will fire up just fine, but then it will IMMEDIATELY die out, unless you rapidly pump the gas pedal. If you just floor it, the car will rev, and then hit the limiter, and then it will die out. I just took apart the whole damn top end and replaced the fuel pressure regulator, thinking that was the problem. Well, it wasn't. After a while of pumping, the car will warm up and idle- VERY roughly. While it's running, if you pull the vaccuum hose off of the fuel pressure regulator, the car will rev more normally and the idle will be normal. But, obviously, this is not normal. So, I'm in DESPERATE need of help, and I hope someone can help me dammit. Thanks very much
gp90se
check to see if you have a vaccum leak sumwhere else in they system, might want to even go so far as to take a piece of hose from the port on the plenum where the tranny connects, right to the FPR, and block off the original hose and see what that does. also might have low fuel pressure from a blocked filter or dying pump. good luck. -Jeff
SigEpCutlass
i'd say check your fuel filter...blockage could cause it possibly
conley3.1
The fuel filter is brand new... Might this problem be caused by blocked fuel injectors?
god910
Not plugged, but bad windings will. I'd ohm them out. I had the same thing happen. Start, rev., die. I couldn't get it to run at all though. So might be different, I'd check it anyhow. I found if you take the bolt out of the middle of the rear (holds the exhaust bracket thingy on) bout half way down the plenum in the rear (firewall side) then remove the upper plenum bolts, you can get it up high enough to check the injectors, don't have to take anything else apart or remove it from the plenum. Unless you still have the TB coolant lines hooked up. Then you're outta luck. Good luck.
maybe2fast
before you do anything major like injectors check the Idle air control motor! that sounds like the problem
89GPSE
It is fuel related.
Big Blue
I would also say it's t do with the fuel system, you said you replaced the fuel filter right, did you change the fuel pump also have you change the EGR value(it might just be called an EGR)will look up the right name for ya have you cleaned the t/b lately???,did you reteach the idle after wards
conley3.1
Yeah, the TB is clean, as is the intake manifold. I cleaned them very very thoroughly a few months ago because it wouldn't start, and it solved that problem immediately. I have never done the Idle relearn, because nobody would help me out, they all said "It didn't matter" Can someone tell me how? I've been thinking lately that it might be the fuel pump. I sure hope so... This problem is seriously getting me pissed off. There's a 10 pound sledge around here somewhere... Heh. J/k.
conley3.1
I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump, i'm going to replace that pretty soon.
gp90se
before ya spend $60 on a pump and spend a dya dropping the tank, spend $15 and put a fuel gauge on the rail, see what kinda pressure u have. -Jeff
