dsgrntld187 Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I was browsing around on the main page today, looking for some info about what size tires to get if I got 17" rims, and it says that all W-bodies came with 225/60-16. I went out to my car, and the sticker in back says 215/60-16 and the tires are Goodyear Eagles 215/60-16. Why is that and is anyone elses like that? Thanks -Spencer Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 225/60R16 came on the 3.4 W-bodies. 215/60R16 came on 2.8, 3.1, and 3100 W-bodies. Some GP's like the TGP and such got 245/50R16. Quote
Dannymik Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 yeah, what he said! THen you will have to look into a tire diameter meter to see how much your speedo will be off when you change from the OEM size. Not to jack this thread, but if you go up in rim size do you loose torque? Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I believe as long as the overall diameter of the tire hasn't changed, it should be the same. Quote
Z34door Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 stay as close to 26.3 diameter and you'll be on the money Quote

dbtk2 Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Some w-bodies came with 15" wheels (something like 195/70/15's...could go take a look at my sisters GP but I'm too lazy to get up), and others came with 16's...but some came with 215's, others with 225's, and others with 245's. My friend has a '93 3.1L Lumina that had stock 225's. My TSTE had stock 215's, and our TGP coupe came with 245's stock. It seems like for the most part 3.4's have 225's and the rest except TGP's got 215's, maybe that is the majority...but I know for sure my friends 3.1L Lumina had stock 225's. Shawn Quote
mfewtrail Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 I looked at my window sticker for my 1993 Grand Prix SE, before options for the 215/60-16's, the car would have gotten 205/70-15's. Quote

dsgrntld187 Posted June 16, 2004 Author Report Posted June 16, 2004 Woulda 235/50-17 be ok for my car? The tire calc says it would be 60.2 if it was actually 60, but would they rub? Quote
91oldscutlass Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 I was confused too about tire till i realized they needed air in them to roll!!! Quote
dsgrntld187 Posted June 16, 2004 Author Report Posted June 16, 2004 Pshh who says they need air Quote

loominaz34 Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 The tires in my 92 Z34 rub at full lock and they're factory size. Is this a bad thing? Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 The tires in my 92 Z34 rub at full lock and they're factory size. Is this a bad thing? yea! rubbing is never good when it comes to automotive stuff. unless you're detailing I have one of the early '94's with 215/70R15. Yes i have the rims that came with some achieva's. See my cardomain if you need to see pics (WWW link). Quote
