Paxton NOVI Kit?

Has anyone ever used or looked into the specs on the kit offered by Northwest Motorsport for the 3.4L. It says it comes with a Paxton NOVI 1000 RR gear driven supercharger rated for 7lbs of boost and all the mounts to run it from the factory serpintine belt (longer belt incl). Just wondering if this is a good investment as apposed to an actual L-67. The ad claims 275 WHP and 290 pounds of tourque. Is this realistic or is this like those "electric turbo" things compounded with overblown HP estimates?

sounds a little overblown, seeing as how the L67 is a stronger motor and runs between 8-12 lbs boost depending on what mods have been done and only makes 245-265 hp.

Whoa, i didnt realize that said WHEEL hp. That does sound a little over-rated. Thats a lot of power for only 7lbs of boost. If those figures where at the motor then i could maybe see that, but the fact that CSCs usually produce more hp than torque leaves me skeptical.

not sure what that means (CSC)? The ad did address the low end power issue (I think) it said that boost begins @ 1650rpm so low end power is also better. I don't know how the power band works so I'm not sure if that would hold true. The only thing I could really understand from the ad is that out-of-the-box they claim 35%-55% hp gain on 91 oct gas with no problems in reliability/life span. They also state that the units can go up to 500hp with appropriate ignition/fuel/timing/internals modifications. I don't think I'd want to go that crazy  well maybe not  but was thinking with a litlle fuel work ( pump, injectors, bigger rail) and a better spark unit like mororso or msd and upping the boost to about 9. Would something such as that cause the motor to go poof or could a guy safely wind around 300-310hp out of an LQ1 without heavy internal modifications?

Out of curiosity how much boost does a stock L67 get from it's unit for boost?

Ok if a stock L67 does 8-12lbs of boost wouldn't that much boost cause bad spark problems if you forced that much air into a LQ1 without some sort of fuel/ignition work?? Heard before of "ping or lap" or something if you ram too much air and don't recipricate with adiquate fuel and spark.

So what I'm hearing is that even with more fuel and spark, adding this unit, re-doing the cpu and having it properly tuned; I'd be lucky to see an actual (real) 225-230 whp..... if that?

275 WHP and 290 pounds of tourque

While its possible to get that out of the engine I don't see that being a direct bolt on and having no problems.. I could see those figures being more beleiveable if it was HP at the crank.

With the 3.4 (3400) it puts out what, like a little more than half that number stock at the wheels (asuming a 20% drivetrain loss). So it would double the power... I can't see it holding up to that and running properly without major tuning.

3.4DOHC Making 215hp (would equal 172wHP).. so thats an extra HUNDRED HP at the wheels!

I want to see some links, or I'll wave the flag :bs:

the only "link" other than the info I gathered off the web is to Paxton Superchargers. Northwest Motorsports has been VERY good about responding to my ??? via e-mail and telephone, but doesn't have an online catalog of products. I found Northwest while looking into the gear drive Novi-chargers after seeing it on Trucks TV on Spike Network. (was being used on a ford F 150 4X4 quadcab. They gave a link on that show for the superchargers and through asking them ??? was put in touch with Northwest. Northwest said the kit mounts "close" to where the stock airbox goes and is run by a pulley off the serpintine belt. That pulley is mounted to a steel rod with bearings that runs to another pulley on the drivers side of the block then has a belt to drive the actual unit. (thats the way I understood it as I haven't seen any pics of one set up) (have seen some nice shots and specs on the NOVI 100RR @ paxtons site) After install the guy told me I (someone skilled like a mechanic NOT me  ) would have to plumb in the intake (from in front of drivers front tire) to the intake side and from the charger to the throttlebody. He also said Paxton is offering an air to air intercooler but MUCH more plumbing would be required as well as finding a spot in front of rad and low on front of car, but say additional HP gains are well worth the extra effort. As for BS you can verify this for yourself by visiting Paxton.com or typing in" Paxton NOVI 1000RR" onto the search engine. Thats all I did and got lots of info.

wait, is this for the DOHC or pushord 3.4L?

I'm willing to bet it's for the 3X00 pushrod motors. By the way, this particular SC is a RR(reverse rotation) model if that helps answer your question from the other thread you(Uniquedreamz) posted.

I re-contacted the rep this morning and he stated that this unit (or the novi 1000(reg rotation)) can be mounted into almost any vehicle provided they have a microfishe of the vehicle. He said it's mostly a matter of getting the pulley in line with the exixsting belt or mounting a rod & pulley system to get a belt onto the S/C drive. He said they have done a couple of these already (he was sure one was a '93 Z-34) and the customers was VERY happy with the results.

But even though I'm not real power savy I tend to believe you guys over a guy who is trying to get me to spend $2200. This is why I thought I would ask, gaining 100hp by just ramming more air into the throttlebody seemed a bit far fetched, even for a sucker like me

 Maybe I can get a hot deal on a tornado at the same time and get that power up over 300 lmao

Is this real???

YES!!!

A stock L67 puts out 240hp with a very inefficient M90 Supercharger pushing 6psi boost. The Novi 1000 is MUCH more efficient...it would move so much more air at the same boost level (more boost does not mean more air necessarily) and the air would be much colder also so putting one on a stock L67 instead of the M90 would gain horsepower at the same boost level. If you are making 7psi boost, thats more boost than the M90 pushes on an L67 and the air is a lot colder because the blower is much more effieicent. I would bet that it could add 100 crank horsepower...not sure about 100whp but 100 crank horsepower wouldn't be unbelieveable at all. Putting a Novi 1000 on a stock L36 (non-supercharged L36) adds right around 100whp...so its definately possible on the 3.4. With a little more boost (like 9-10psi) and an intercooler...275whp is not too far off.

If you visit http://www.zzperformance.com and look at the CSC kit they have for L36's & L67's you can read about it and maybe you will understand a little better how it will help.

Basically the bottom line is, a CSC is a VERY easy way to add a LOT of power to your car. That is the simplist terms I think I can put it in. IMO $2200 is a very good price for the kit. IIRC its like $4k for the L36 ones.

So what I'm hearing is that even with more fuel and spark, adding this unit, re-doing the cpu and having it properly tuned; I'd be lucky to see an actual (real) 225-230 whp..... if that?

You should have at LEAST that much power with a CSC without tuning i would hope. And it would cost WAY more to put in an L67 and mod it to make that much power than this kit will cost you...I promise. Stock L67's don't even put out 200whp. And even if you were only make 230whp...thats not wimpy. Thats enough power to pull off high 13's...which should be a good 2 seconds faster than you car is now...which is a LOT. I wouldn't be complaining if my car was only making 230whp.

I would pay $2200 to have a supercharger put on my car :D

Even if it doesn't add an extra 100wHP its still gonna give you a HUGE gain! Its a supercharger!! 8)
