What tranny...

I think they were using a crappy Isuzu trans in there - I had 5 in my old sunbird with the 2.2 OHC (mantapart brazillian engine to replace the 2.0) the only thing different between the 2.2 OHV (pushrod) and the 2.0 OHC was the starter placement - I learned very quickly how to transplant transmission parts from one case to the other - I was VERY destructive to that poor car.

no problem, not really worth it to run those trani's anyhow, they are very disposable, altho if you get a cavalier Z24 (3.1) 5-speed, they beefed up the internal bearings, and they should* hold better in the W-bodies, but I'm not sure if actual trans mount to the car is the same, or even similar for that mattter.

They did...............except apparantly some VERY early V6 Cavaliers that had a heavy duty Isuzu (and I've only been "told" this.......not seen any actual proof).

But all 87+ J, L and W body V6 mauals had the HM-282 (J and L bodies got one gearset, W's another). Fieros also got the 282...........with the same gearing as the J and L body cars.

BigBuls is partially right, they did use the 282's in SOME of the J-bodies, but almost every 4-banger I've run into has had the isuzu trans in it. The two V6 J-bodies I've pulled manual tran's out of had beefed up Isuzu transmissions.
