sonyman87
new intake gaskets, new AIC(helped alot!), New plugs(rapid fire #8) new wires (accell super stock), Car runs like a charm except if its been sitting for 9 hours or more. My problem is a nasty cold start. It will turn over rev to about 2k rpms (normal) then drop missfire and die, NO unusually high rpms, all 6 cylindars will fire at 1400rpms but if it drops below that, X amount of cylindars quit fireing and it will die. after 15seconds of running the car it starts to settle down(indicating lubrication easyier to turn) and run slopy at 1200rpms sounding like 600rpms on a V8(sounds like a miss) After another 30 seconds the miss is gone and im free to drive like normal. Im putting money on injectors but i dont want to get ahead of myself. Its hard to diagnoise this problem b/c it only happens maybe 4-5 times a week and i drive ALOT! anyone wanna take a stab at this one? Im running Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 anyone think i need to change motor oils? Im considering Maxlife 5w-
joey b
makes me think something with the EGR.
Slade901
I put my money on CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor). The sensor which is located behind the throttle body. Your problem is like a malfunctioning choke on a carburetor type engine. The choke is used only on cold starts. The Fuel Injected systems does not have anymore choke. However, when the engine is cold, the computer checks the temperature signal from the CTS. Usually at cold start, a working CTS will send a proper cold signal to the computer and then the computer lets the fuel injector open longer during cold start. If the CTS is malfunctioning, then the fuel injector is not being controlled properly at cold start. Try removing the CTS and clean it or replace it and see if that makes a difference. Air/Oil vapor from the PCV system causes a lot of sensors to get gunked up with carbon. Try searching the web of this keyword "PCV Catch Can". I'd recommend the air/oil filter used for the air compressors.

You say behind the throttle body? the only things i see behind the throttle body is the TPS, AIC, and EGR valve along with some vacume lines. Under it there is the Thermostate houseing and no wires going to it. the front left corner the pump inlet and outlet and no electrical to that either. maybe im blind so will you say exactly where its at. "like next to the TPS 1inch lower" im also gonna make an attempt to look it up online. thanks
topless94style
Your CTS is on the lower intake manifold. Its a pain in the ass to get at, i believe its to the right and kinda underneath the thermostat housing. I took off the plenum to change mine so i could get enough room for the wrench. Nacho
My Grand Am starts up to 2500 rpms in cooler weather, but never dies, unless I drive like it like that for a bit then put it in Park. But that's rare. I dunno if my problem is the same as your's though. I too, have replaced some compenents as you have.

Well im going to live with it untill i buy injectors b/c there is no way in hell im pulling the intake manifold off again without major repairs needed.
