Lurch
Sup guys and gals. New member as of today. Looking for some help here. Lately my 93 Lumina Euro Sedan (3.1) is "jerking". around 3200 rpms but not while accelerating. You can watch the tach drop from about 3200 down to about 2000 then jump back up. It seems that it only happens while not keeping foot on the gas and/or accelerating. Also, it is not throwing a CEL code. I figured at first it was a fuel delivery/spark issue, but after changing the plugs/wires and adding fuel injector cleaner there were no changes. Talked to a few of my buddies from another enthusiast site (J-body.org) and a few suggested the following problems..... Coil packs, torque converter is locking up, fuel injectors cutting out. Just wanted to get some input on if anyone has had a similar problem or any suggestions on the next step.
WhiteOut
When you say that it doesn't do it while accelerating do you mean while the car is idling, or do you mean that it does it when the car is coasting down the road? If its coasting is there any particular speed at which it happens?
Lurch
When its coasting. I would estimate it to be over 60 mph. It has happened a few times, seems to only be when I am on the freeway, not accelerating.
Baddflash
How is the car running the rest of the time? what kind of miliage? Are you noticing tc lockup?
Lurch
Its running pretty well. About 160k miles. The TC seems to be doing fine. I think I have isolated it to a fuel issues. It actually about died going around a corner a few times today. I can't put my finger on where the problem is. Going to try a fuel filter this weekend, after that I move on to injectors. mihela816
Not always. But often. Since it's a euro it has the 4T60 or 60/e
Lurch
Crap. Well, just got back from the mechanic's place. They say it is one of three things if not all related..... 1. Ignition Control Module 2. Coil Packs 3. Injectors Guy said about $300 to fix the problem. Anyone have any idea how many injectors are in the car as well as how much they are each? Replace the ICM yourself. I bought a whole ICM/coilpack assembly for $35 at a junkyard, and that was without the "pull-it-yourself" discount. $300 my ass. SigEpCutlass
my coil packs somehow rusted. I couldn't get them off, so I had to have the dealer replace them. With new wires and spark plugs while they were at it, that ran me over $500 with labor
White93z34
i'd say coil pack(s), from what i've seen ignition module just makes the car fail to start, but even so replaceing the fuel filter can't be a bad idea.
SigEpCutlass
if you're gonna replace the fuel filter, be prepared to have to drop your gas tank. I didn't want to deal with that, so I had the dealer do it. Yes i was lazy for those 2 things...i don't want to hear it
White93z34
drop the fuel tank? i looked up under the car isan't the fuel filter right in front of the gas tank looks like a small sliver soup can?

Nick1234
if the ignition module is bad, the car will start and run, but once it warms up it will die, and not start again till cold. nick
