Heza Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 i just finished doing it while changing a lower intake gasket. its not hard to change on a 3.1...a little harder on a 3100. you can JB weld it, or silicone around it if you want. replacing it with the newer brown gasket is best. i have pictures of all the junk if you want me to post them. just let me know! gp90se Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Did mine couple years ago, got a new gasket, 1/8 bead of red RTV (+5 horsepower) and it never leaked again. -Jeff Quote
scorpion_x9 Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Weld it in!!! j/k Sorry, I have no advice for that. I tried replacing mine once and that o-ring was rock solid, so I could get that darn thing out. Guess I'll have to try again later... Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 with the TB out of the way it's really easy to get to. i had to grab mine with a channel locks and wiggle it out. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 yeah that o-ring needs to be replaced. when i replaced mine i had to cut it off with a razor. it was like hard brittle plastic! i never used any sealant or RTV. i just replaced the o-ring and stuck it back in. no leaks here. Quote
Gearhead43 Posted June 3, 2004 Report Posted June 3, 2004 Use the GM )-rings .. they seem to last longer GM # 10477565 They come from GM Parts Direct 5 to a box Quote
GPdriver1986 Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 http://www.v6z24.com http://www.60degreev6.com http://www.w-body.com all of these sites have good instructions to replace this gasket. Quote
god910 Posted June 4, 2004 Report Posted June 4, 2004 Dave, I've got a few pics as well. It's very easy, I just used the new o-rind. It lasted me 13 years, and 150K miles, so I figure I'll be dead by the time it needs done again. Plus, it's only $.98 (Canadian could be like $439 so watch out.) Quote
digitaloutsider Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 It's a piece of cake on a 3.1! I wrote my own tutorial on it on here. DO get a GM ring. It's like $3 from the dealer, and it'll last longer than the one you buy at an auto parts store. Quote
