SmoothSteve3 Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Ok, so in the upper-end rebuild that I'm getting ready to do, I had planned to cut out the crossover pipe from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve. I would then patch the hole in the manifold, and stick some sort of tiny filter on the opening of the EGR valve. The whole point here, is so that I'm always running semi-clean air in my engine.....and not any recirculated gasses at all. So here's my question: Would doing this trip any sensors or cause any error codes? Would it change the exhaust content enough to trip the oxygen sensor? Would it damage the engine in any sort of way? Thanks! SmoothSteve Quote
Slade901 Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 Install a PCV Catch Can instead. Oil lowers your fuel octane level and makes your intake manifold, iac, throttle plate, etc., becomes dirty/gunked up. Quote
god910 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Slade, he's talking EGR not PCV. Steve, why not remove the EGR all together, make a blockoff plate for the intake, but yes, the light will turn on. You have to keep the ECM from trying to turn it on. (In my code I turn the IF COOLANT <= DISABLE EGR all the way up. The ECM nevers sees 320* coolant temps, so it keeps the EGR disabled) HTH. Quote
WhiteOut Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Putting a filter on the EGR intake passages is going to be tantamount to having one hell of a vacuum leak. It will suck air in after the MAP/MAF sensor. You'll have to block or seal the passage. Quote
SmoothSteve3 Posted June 1, 2004 Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 Those are some very good points.......god910, I like your method of programming the ECM to not use the EGR..... I'm a novice at programming, but if your willing to tell me how to do it, then I'll figure it out somehow.... SmoothSteve Quote
cutlassdude96 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 FFp has that option of disabling the egr in the chip Quote
god910 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 FFp has that option of disabling the egr in the chip Yes they do, Steve you have to have a programmer to do so. If you do, or are willing to get one and a UV eraser (I don't use one, I replace the MEMCAL's EPROM w/ an EEPROM. for electronic erasure) I can walk you through it. Another option is use an adapter like FFP, and after some thought I have started as well. It's cheaper than a MEMCAL, and there is far less work. Lemme know. Quote
