SmoothSteve3 Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 When I do my upper engine rebuild (Upper intake, lower intake, and heads), am I going to screw up my timing? Do i need to be worried about possibly screwing it up? Thanks SmoothSteve Quote
god910 Posted May 30, 2004 Report Posted May 30, 2004 3.4 yes, other=not unless you remove the chain, and even then it's not hard at all to set it right. Quote
SmoothSteve3 Posted May 30, 2004 Author Report Posted May 30, 2004 Sorry.....its the 3.1 VIN T......I've just heard so many horror stories from my friend about "knocking" valves and screwed up timing and all....he just rebuilt a late 60's Sunbeam. Quote
skiiirt Posted May 31, 2004 Report Posted May 31, 2004 I got a ton of information from the guys who just rebuilt my 3.4L has to do with timing belts and whatnot. If you want a copy I can scan em in or use my digi to take pics Quote
Dan94Z34 Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 when you remove the push-rods, make sure they are in order. The intake and exhaust rods are different sizes. If you mess the order up, you can start bending stuff. Also, make sure you torque the rocker nuts to 18ft.lbs. The valves are not adjustable, like the older chevy v8's are. Quote
