KRH20
Anyone know where to get this part cheaper? http://www.store.yahoo.com/convertibleservice/9095cut.html
WhiteOut
Nope, but I think I've got a dead one too. Lifting the top up requires some manual help on the passenger side of my car and its steadily getting worse. Putting the top down is no problem however so its not too bad yet. But if you do find a cheap source let me know. Have you replaced one before? Judging by their location they look like a total PIA.
KRH20
Nope, havent replaced one yet, but I went to a convertible specialist and they said it is a pain too. Have to remove the whole top frame and I believe it may involve some welding, but they hadnt had a lot of experience with this model so they would "have to take it as they go". This is not cool at all, because I have problems latching my top closed securely... :verymad: [/code]
WhiteOut
What is the dead cylinder causing your top to act like? I just wonder if your problem is similar to mine or not.
KRH20
Well, to start from the beginning, my little bnrother's 6'6" friend decided to shortcut his way out of my backseat, stepping on the folded down frame. 3 weeks later as I was letting the top up, something snapped, and a couple days later I took it in to the aforementioned shop, diagnosing the stress of that shortcut caused the eventual snapping of the cylinder. I need to help my top go down by pushing up and over on the passenger side, then get out and push the frame into a fully folded position. Then, to let it up, it takes one person pressing the button while another lifts up and over and both people pulling down to secure the latches. I have pretty much made putting the top down a blue moon thing.
WhiteOut
Yep, that sounds pretty similar to my problem, I can totally relate to the needing two people to put the top back up thing. Its quite interesting to atempt by yourself. It involves a lot of stretching and some interesting foot work. My top isn't hard to latch however. If your having trouble getting the hooks to catch you can always adjust them. All you need to do is unscrew the set screw on the hooks and turn the hooks out a couple turns so that they're a bit longer and thus will catch sooner/easier. You've got to be careful not to adjust the hooks too far out though since your top won't seal right if they're too loose.
Big Blue
Just a quick question are these cylinders the same as air struts :? but for cuttys
KRH20
I'll have to try that WhiteOut, thanks for the tip! BigBlue, the Hydraulic Cylinder is part of the convertible top lift mechanism so I dont believe its related to air struts.
