Dual Exhaust for the 3400 engines

My dad just purchased a nice 2004 Monte LS according to various websites its rated at 180-185hp. But it has a single pipe and mufler, is there a dual exhaust availble aftermarket or one similar to the one on the SS model and if so what would it do to the power of the motor? My dad is also looking at getting a K&N filter, now his car still has a warranty so he doesnt want to get anything that will void it so any exhaust should still have the hook up for the O2 or whatever sensors that are usually attached to the pipe somewhere.

Go to a local exhaust shop and they can custom build one for ya. The exhaust systems on the net will probaly be more expensive.

depends, I spent $670 on my custom set up.

$670 isn't that outrageous. I paid a bit over $500 to have custom one built for my toronado. That included 2.5" madrel bent stainless tubing, a new (aluminized) direct fit catalytic converter, a stainless steel magnaflow muffler (camaro/firebird style), and two factory original GM tri outlet chrome exhaust tips.

Price is simply a funtion of how fancy you want to get. I've heard lots of people spending closer to $300 if you pick up the mufflers yourself and simply bring them to a shop to get the work done. Plus if you go with aluminized parts its a lot cheaper. On the downside they don't last as long, being as I live in Michigan where we salt I went for the stainless steel in the hope that it would last a couple years. If you live somewhere where corrosion isn't a big problem then go with the cheaper aluminized stuff.

there's no way in hell i'd spend $700 on an exhaust for ANY car. that's just too much money for a bunch of pipes. i've never met anyone who's had a problem with the average muffler shop exhaust rotting out, it's always the factory stainless exhaust systems that i see rotted out.
