streetdreams1
I know the TGP legend but I was wondering if anyone has attempted to turbo a NA 3.1 without using all the special one off parts I been thinkin bout slowly sourcin out a system one piece at a time but I dont know how to get around the ECM being programmed for running NA and the exhaust manifold
Guest TurboSedan
i probably will be soon. my Cutlass is running/driving fine right now, but i no longer use it - it just sits in the parking lot with expired tags now. i have a garage full of TGP parts so i will be using that stuff instead of custom stuff. finding & using TGP parts is probably the easiest way. i'll probably get bored sometime in June and pull the NA 3.1 out, and start bolting on TGP parts.... Guest TurboSedan
nope, i already have a rebuilt crossover from RedZ and a stock TGP T25 turbocharger so i'll be using those. my NA 3.1 has 220,000+ miles....i wonder how much boost she will take before BOOM hehe i figure this motor couldn't handle much anyway so the T25 should be big enough. my TGP 'V' engine is currently on the engine stand in the garage - if i ever get that thing rebuilt i would definately like to use a T3/T4 instead of the little T25. Be sure to carry a video camera with you once you get it installed. Good choice on the tgp V engine.

Guest TurboSedan
well i doubt it will be very quick, but i'll flog on it anyway my GTS will be getting a whole lot quicker over the summer so i doubt that the Cutlass will ever catch the GTS...even after the TGP 'V' engine rebuild. i'm hoping to be running close to 18-20psi with a 3-bar cal by the end of the summer in the GTS at that point i don't see a 3.1 MPFI turbo ever catching my GTS. GutlessSupreme
What needs to be done to turbo an n/a 3.1? And how much PSI does anyone think it could run on n/a stock internals (and did the vin Vs get different internals or are they the same as the Ts?) Guest TurboSedan
i think it will be ok. i will start off with minimum boost , ie full manifold pressure to the wastegate. i'll probably get bored with that quick and grainger valve it up to wherever it starts to knock. i will be using a custom EEPROM with no boost/fuel cut and it will need to work with the 5-speed. i will run the highest octane gas possible of course. hopefully i can get it up as high as 8-10psi, guess i'll find out if...er WHEN it blows, i'll happily throw it out and rebuild/install the 'V' engine. there is a good thread detailing the differences in the TGP section...there was a recent reply so you should be able to find it there real quick. Lemme know if you want me to get rid of the boost cut before I ship it out. It'll take about 5 seconds. Use at your own risk. P.S. Did you want me to get rid of the EGR as well? Or are you guys hippie restricted?
streetdreams1
somebody mentioned its not hard to piece a system togethor using authentic TGP pieces, I thought they were very rare specialty cars, how many of these damn cars were built?? dont listen to these guys dissin a T-25, I've driven some eclipses with T-25's and they haul ass, good for 250hp and realistically how long do you think your gonna keep it togethor with any more power than that, before it pukes your hard earned cash and hard work all over the damn road
GutlessSupreme
pleh. I was hoping all that would be needed to be done was top engine stuff. looks like it'd burn through my tranny in a week though, and I'm no where near ready to remove the entire engine/tranny to have internals beefed. not like I would. If I ever did anything to my tranny it'd be a 5 speed swap, and that's out of the question for me too.
Z34door
oh yeah and forget a tgp turbo setup if you have ABS. the controller would be right next to the turbo heat =byebye

T25's are NOT optimal in ANYBODY'S book for a larger V6 like these. I'd probably start looking at compressor maps for T3's and the like.
