okay heres the deal, this 88 SE has sat all winter in deep ice, I tow it home and thaw it out, I start it a couple times by touchin S terminal to the main post to work on it at the shop I work at, than after a cople of these I notice I'm losin juice in my battery so I get a couple extras in the trunk jus in case well the starters gone..check, the alts now gone...check (prolly from my bad starter) and now when I try to boost it in my driveway I dont get door chimes, lights nada. I mean the battery in the running car is strong but nada, and the damn sunroof is stuck open. I dont know what to do. I know I shouldnt have started it off the s terminals more than once but now the starter and alt and battery are pooched. now that I bought a new bosch starter and a J-yard alt and a fresh batt to go in, this happens

no flow to anything. I dont know how to trace the problem all I know like I said is I have the parts to put in for the charging system but now that I got no flow off a battery hooked up to the car I dont know what to do? put them in and risk it but see what happens ? I got the car from my moms

she left it for an accord after she dropped money on exhaust and than the fuel pump went. I replaced it for her before winter came and its hibernated all that time, sorry its a long post jus frustrated

Have you checked all of your grounds? I would check them, and also re-run your wiring. You could have some frayed wires, or possibly even fried wires.

well checking the grounds is a good idea due to the age of the car and its sitting for so long all winter (corrosion) but i was thinking and first i'm gonna check the fuse for the battery and than see if i'm getting power to the starters battery terminal since that is the main entry of power from the battery to any car, not to sound like I know the answer to my own damn question

jus figured since i am not very familiar with the older gm engines (2.8, 3.1, 3300, etc) maybe i should ask some people who are. reruning wiring isnt feasible due to no diagnosis that is the problem and its large cost and labour intensive.with a multi-meter i can diagnose a wiring system for inconsistencies and draws.i hope i dont find any.i got a feeling this all leads back to hot wiring the car off the starter, sending a massive unregulated charge to the starter could have blown the battery fuse or the battery connection on that old starter could be corroded to the point of failure. thanks though

slick94prix for your help, i figured more people on here knew the charging system well seems everybody answered my turbo question though! ah well cant blame the bench racers for a hot topic

see ya round man and thats a hot z34 ya got yourself

OH, by rerunning wires, i meant by just like a few wires, not the whole harness or anything. Heck, it could just be a short piece of wire that would need replaced, and that wouldn't be hard at all.

Thanks for the comments on my car by the way.

I would remove the bad components and isolate their wiring. Then hook up a battery with some juice and see if you get power back in your interior. I would do that and figure out if it's just those few failed components or a whole lot of them, then decide where to go from there.
