Guest Anonymous
Hit the catalytic conv. with a hammer and see if anything rattles around inside. Don't hit it too hard and put a hole in it though.

89Cutlass
Could this be the reason for high idling sometimes being it being partially clogged. and sometimes no response from gas pedel. ive tested all the sensors are fine new plugs, wires, battery, fuel pump all new.. GnatGoSplat
I'm not aware of high idle being a symptom of a clogged cat. Rattling near or around the cat could just be the heat shield. Do you have any other driveability symptoms?
89Cutlass
no the car drives great except for the high idle and its only sometimes that it does it too.. its not the heat sheild. Ive checked that the inside of the cat is all broken up when i bang on it you can here pieces rattlling around.. Craig
GnatGoSplat
High idle is usually due to a vacuum leak or intake manifold leak. Spray around your engine with carb cleaner and see if you can detect any change in engine RPM.

GnatGoSplat
Spray around the intake manifold gaskets, plenum gaskets, vacuum lines, etc.
