Are the door speaker grills plastic or metal??

I always thought the door speaker grills on my 89 Cutlass were just plastic...but now that I'm starting to see an orange color on them...which looks to be rust...I'm assuming I was wrong, and that they're actually metal?

 

Is this correct?

 

Also, should I just buy some metal/rust paint and paint them? I don't really want to have to remove the door skins to do it, so I was just thinking of using a brush or sponge to paint them...
