stein Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Ok, started the car this morning no problem. Go to leave work and nothing. I noticed the lights were dim, So I get a jump and hesitantly it starts, but real weird! About as fast as the solenoid clicked the power seem to flicker, not quite as fast but ... I get home no problem, All the lights, radio work fine while driving. I tested the battery and it was fine. I went to start it and it sounds like wires frying! Lights are dim. Traced the wires to the solenoid and they are solid, battery connection is solid. I believe it is the solenoid and not the starter. What do you think? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 Sounds like a good place to start. Got j/y near that you can grab a starter from to try? Quote
EurosportZ34 Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Hrmm....sounds like the problem that I am having right now with my 3.4....lemme know what you find out. Quote
stein Posted May 7, 2004 Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 My 2k Celica gt-s gets out of the shop tomorrow so I will at least have a ride! After talking to a neighbor, he also seems to think it is the solenoid, but suggest changing the starter too while it is out. So I am going to do this Sunday or Monday. Quote
DaveFromColorado Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 how 'bout the ground wires, are they all in good shape making nice clean contacts? --Dave Quote
stein Posted May 9, 2004 Author Report Posted May 9, 2004 I checked the battery with a multi-meter and from that it look good, as did the grounding. So I took out the starter, and battery and took it down to Autozone. They tested the battery which went through the test once and then just quit, after a few more tries it finally came up bad. Tested the starter/selonoid and it cranked fine. Once I dropped the battery in it started fine. Cause of the problem was the battery, so I bought a new one ($50) I have a 96 GP SE w/3.1 and I will tell you what, the starter was easier than the battery to take out! Thanks for all your help.
