dbtk2
The A/C on my TSTE doesn't work, so I figured whats the point of having all the weight there and the stuff taking up space if it isn't needed. So I am thinking about removing the stuff, but I don't know how difficult it would be. Mostly I just want to get rid of the condensor (and if you can tell me how to do that easily I will), but if I can get the compressor out easily I will do that too, but will I need an idler to put in place of it, and if so, where do I get one? Thanks in advance, Shawn
WhiteOut
I don't think you'll need an idler pulley, you should just be able to buy A/C delete belt from your local parts store. Usually there's a sticker under the hood that shows the belt routing with and without A/C so that shouldn't be too tough. Removing the components however may prove to be a bit tricky. The high side of the system is under immense pressure. I don't recall the specs off hand, but suffice to say that it would be bad news to simply crack it open. If you could find away to relieve the pressure though you'd get a pretty good weight savings by removing the compressor and condensing assemblies. topless94style
I will have to follow this thread maybe, my AC works, but with a convert, the cold air doesnt stay in long enough to cool anything. Only time i can think of when i would use the ac is when its a hot day and raining out. And with the vert, wieght savings is good.

Thanks in advance, Shawn Grand Prix's built after 1988 came standard with A/C. There also was not an A/C delete package available. I'd go out and tell you what size by belt is, but it's all worn down. All I did was put the belt over all the accessories minus the A/C compressor, and then hold down the slack. I tied it and then took it down to Napa. They found me a belt that fit just fine.
WhiteOut
Hmm...I would have thought that the super bare bones cars came without A/C, or at the very least there would be a J-Body without A/C and the same engine that you could get a belt number off of. Bingo, a pulley off a J-body w/o ac will work for us. There was a post about this in the TGP section here or over at the TGP board not too long ago. Search! White93z34
maybe stripped luminas? no offense lumina owners well i do remeber seeing an option in my owners manual where it described the non a/c heater control unit and showed a picture. it was prety much the standard lumina hvac controls less 2 buttons, so i would imagine that there was a delete option for it at least in luminas. have yet to see one though even the total base model in the jy with the iron duke had no options what so ever had the a/c dash. mihela816
My 2.5 Lumina has AC, but I think that the 2.5 can work with justa shorter belt to go around.
