zuperman
Hello all, I need to re-charge my A/C on my 1994 Cutlass Supreme. Does anybody know with which refrigerent it came with? And I also can't find the valve to add refrigerent. Can somebody help me locate it? Thanks for your help.
WhiteOut
Might be tricky, unless its already been converted to R-134a you'll have to drain the entire system first and then do the recharge. And if thats the case I can't even begin to tell you how to do it yourself without damaging the system. If it has been converted already it should be relatively simple. Go buy a couple cans of refrigerant as well as some oil and simply add it to the system through the low pressure port. The port is usually located in front of the engine on the drivers side of the car, it will be on a pipe that comes out of an aluminum cylinder (condenser I believe), it will usually have a blue cap on the hook up to let you know its the low pressure side of the system. DO NOT hook up to the high pressure side (usually near the firewall), it will have a red cap. DO NOT mix refrigerants either, the result will be you buying an entirely new AC system. Anyways, from once you've got the port located just follow the instructions on the can.
zuperman
Hmm, can't seem to locate the port. It must be under the air filter or windshield fluid resevoir. How can I tell if it is R12 or the other. There are no visible signs.
cutlassdude96
it will have a ladel on saying if its R12 or R134a and its under the air filter, yours should be R134a
zuperman
Thanks CutlassDude, I will remove the air filter and will see what kind of charge it takes. Hopefully its the newer one and I can just re-fill it. Thanks for your info. I appreciate it. Z.
phantomshado
1994 was the first year that GM went totally to the 134a instead of the R12.
zuperman
Ok guys, I bought the re-charge with the gage, etc. It was the 134a. I charged but it has a major leak!! I will try the stop leak charge that sells. I'll see if it works and stops the leak. Thanks for your help. Z.

If you use it and it doesn't work. I can almost guarantee that a shop won't touch your AC should you need to take it somewhere. They'll want to charge your for replacing everything. Once you put that in, they go from diagnose and fix to replace mode.
