stockgp Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 i saw a maroon 442 cutty today. must have been 92 or newer. what does the 442 represent on this. i know it's not riced, cuz some old couple owns it. the only 442 i know of, other than the calais, is the rwd 442's. i'm confused Quote
stockgp Posted April 12, 2004 Author Report Posted April 12, 2004 i know about 4-4-2, but there are the calais 442 and 442 w41. i doubt the old guy put badges on it. i just wonder if there were a limited run of supremes i've never heard of Quote
godofthunder Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 no it wasnt. thats why you see 4-4-2. I Cant remember it all, but usually 400CI, 4bbl carb, dual exhaust. the Calias were 4cyl, 4 cams, duals or something then...the 80s were just show's pretty much jon Quote
90TGP Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 442 was never an engine size [common misconception], it was a performance option package for the Cutlass. Quote
stockgp Posted April 12, 2004 Author Report Posted April 12, 2004 ok, but what about the "new" cutty? Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 no it wasnt. I Cant remember it all, but usually 400CI, 4bbl carb, dual exhaust. it can also mean 4-speed, 4bbl, dual exhaust, like the mid 80's Cutlass 442 with the 307ci. there is no W-body 442, just the N-body Cutlass Calais - maybe it stands for 4cyl, 4 valve, twin cam? Quote
stockgp Posted April 12, 2004 Author Report Posted April 12, 2004 i idn't think they put quad 4's in the w's in that body style. maybe the guy did put the stickers on his car. just doesn't seem like something an old guy would do Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Not factory. If the old guy and previous owners didn't put the badges on there, then the dealer must have. It's probably something the dealer did to make the car more interesting, kind of like the FE3 Phantoms and Cutlass SX's. Quote
91oldscutlass Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I have pics of a 1 off 93 442 cutlass convertable somewhere on my hard drive. There was a story about it too. If i find the pics or the link I will post it. Quote
91oldscutlass Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I found the pic...its a 94 not a 93. The only thing is i dont know what the website is that I found it at.....maybe I will come across it again. I will post the pic on my Cardomain site later. Quote
Euro Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Ive never heard of it, although i wanna see what it looks like. from what people have told me, the 60s/70s cutlass 442s meant -4spd 4 bbl, 2 exhaust -4 headlights, 4 bbl, 2 exhaust Quote
91oldscutlass Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Yeah that was what it used to mean. My 76 442 is 350, auto, 4bbl dual exaust....not even close to 442. Quote
91oldscutlass Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/572968/2 This is the pic of the 94 442 on the bottom of the page. Check it out. If anyone can blow this pic up to see what those embelems say let me know and send me the pic! If i remember right the guy was asking like $20,000.00 for it! Quote
jeremy Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 here are more pics of that 'vert....his site says he wants $16000 firm and it has 12,000 original miles...he also claims the white one is a 442 too :? ... Quote
Euro Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 dang those are sweet cars! the hood scoops look like theyre built into the hood, not add ons. Never would have thought Lightning rod shifter would be in it. where is this site at jeremy? Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Is he calling it a 442 now? The convertible he was calling a Hurst awhile back, it has the Hurst lightning shifter in it. It was a 1-off prototype that HE built, not GM or anyone affiliated with GM. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Here it is: http://maytag87.dyndns.org:8081/angelo/94442.html Angelo Valenti is the name of the guy that customized the car. I guess he is calling it a 442, for some reason I thought he was calling it a Hurst/Olds, maybe because of the lightning shifter. I see he is calling the white one a Hurst/Olds. Quote

91oldscutlass Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I wonder if there is a way of getting one of those hoods without a second mortgage on the house??? Quote
