1990 Lumina Euro Coupe
I was wondering if anyone knows if you get an ECM from another car in a junkyard of the same body type (like a GP Box in a Regal) would it work provided they were around the same year and you used your PROM chip. I have been unable to get a clear answer from anyone around here. I was always under the impression that for the most part, the PROM chip designates what engine is in the car, and the ECM's are about the same. Has anyone ever changed ECM's from a different brand, year or both and had any success? Remember we are speaking of ECM, not OBD. I'm just wondering if it could be done. Thanks! mihela816
The ECM should work if it is the same model number. Just swap the PROM over.
