digitaloutsider Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Well, I finally got around to truely gutting my airbox and taking off that entire stupid snorkel piece. Previously I just sawed off the vaccum cleaner attachment part that went to the headlights. This time I took off the entire assembly. All I have to say is WOW. It sounds SO awesome and I do notice some high end power. If you haven't done this mod yet, I definitely suggest it. Edit: Apparently, some people argue that it kills low end performance. Personally, I havent noticed any loss whatsoever. I do notice that it's much louder. Whatever. Do it at your own risk. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 I don't .... might want to join this thread http://www.w-body.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14490 Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 6, 2004 Author Report Posted April 6, 2004 I'm not really worried about performance. I'm getting the 3800 soon anyway. This is just to satisfy my need for a better intake sound Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Than you shouldn't really suggest it if it hurts performance... Quote
GPdriver1986 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 whats this vacum head light cleaner thing? Previously I just sawed off the vaccum cleaner attachment part that went to the headlights. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 lol. I call it the vacuum cleaner attachment because it looks like one. It goes from the airbox to behind the headlights. Quote
jeremy Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 how can you possibly post a thread like this without pics???? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 I figured everyone already knew about it.. lol. I'll take some pics. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 8, 2004 Author Report Posted April 8, 2004 It looks just like your regular box, save for the snorkel assembly. Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Thats interesting, digitaloutsider. Did you take off more than just the snorkel itself? Here's a pic of mine: I only took the snorkel itself off and left the piece that the snorkel mounts too. Think I should take that off too? Quote

I forget why I took it off - to suck in more air I guess. Quote
Donsz34 Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I did the samething but i took a 3/4 wood bit and drilled it all over. Quote
zachismisit Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 You guys inspired me to take off my "snorkel" but I tried and the only way I can think of doing it, is with something destrcutive. I didn't see any bolts or anyhting , any ideas?... besides drilling Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Just unbolt the airbox, take it out and pop the rivits holding it on. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 8, 2004 Author Report Posted April 8, 2004 Just unbolt the airbox, take it out and pop the rivits holding it on. Yep. Simple as that. Pop 'em off and enjoy the new vrrrhhhrooom sound. Quote
TeeJay3800 Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 Just unbolt the airbox, take it out and pop the rivits holding it on. Yep. Simple as that. Pop 'em off and enjoy the new vrrrhhhrooom sound. Well today I took off the part of the snorkel that was remaining. The rivets drilled out no problem. I can't say its any louder though. My exhaust is probably covering most of it up I guess. What does it sound like on your cars? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 9, 2004 Author Report Posted April 9, 2004 You only notice it at WOT, but it's a low vroosh sound. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 My car is too loud I don't notice a difference either. Nothing sounds better than stock 16 year old rusty peeling mufflers. Quote
