EsCo Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Im removing my old exhaust from after the CAT. When unbolting the pipe for the back end of the CAT, is there a gasket there that will need to be replaced at all? Also, can I just bolt the new pipe right up, or will I need to fill the seams at all?? Thanks. -§teve Quote
gp90se Posted April 6, 2004 Report Posted April 6, 2004 Im not sure what car/engine you have, but the 3.1 grand prix dont have any gaskets after the downpipe, its all welded. -Jeff Quote
EsCo Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 The car in question is a '94 3.1 Lumina. If the pipe is just bolted to the CAT, I can handle that, but if it is also welded what do I do to break the seal? -§teve Quote
god910 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 The whole thing is welded, no bolts. Unless it's been replaced, it's just welded. Quote
regalized Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 no gaskets or bolts, if you cut off the cat your muffler will sound like shit, my buddy has a 94 catless lumina, trust me on this one...Regalized Quote
TSabr88 Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 my friend has a 3.1 in a 91 Sunbird with no cat. the stock muffler sounded good till he put on a glasspack! Quote
god910 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I've got a Cutty w/ a 3.1 no cat and stock muffler, it sounds good. I have a TGP w/ stock muff's and no cat, and it sounds better. I've got a more different 5 speed TGP that has no mufflers, no kat, and it sounds BEST. Quote
