manitcor
Here is my orignal thread w/ pics: http://www.mymonte.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22299 My main questions right now are: The insurcance estimate lists paint costing about $120 and paint labor as $240. Does that sound about right if I took these parts to a reputable paint shop? I just looked up CAPA for parts http://www.capacertified.org/ Now my whole reasoning aginst non-oem parts is due to the many fit issues I often hear when using non oem. However I would like to hear from some body guys if they have had any expierence with CAPA certified parts and if they pose this problem as much as non-oem uncertified parts? If the CAPA seal means the part will fit and look good I have no problem with aftermarket espically if it saves me $50-$100.
supreme_style21
I've never used CAPA, but I can assure you that any aftermarket panel WILL NOT match up perfect. I've had to replace hoods, fenders, and bumpers on all of my cars. All parts have been brand new aftermarket. None have matched up perfectly. Honestly you couldn't tell the difference if you weren't looking for it, but if you looked, you could see that things just aren't lining up properly. manitcor
do you end up drilling new holes in the aftermarket parts to line it up as close as possible? is it worth the extra $50-$100 to just get a perfect fit OEM part? GnatGoSplat
We put an aftermarket front fender on the 89 Taurus my sister used to have. Overall it looked okay, but the top corner wasn't shaped quite the same as OEM. I would spend extra to get OEM parts.

Im betting you did more than just damage the bumper, luckily this accident is just the bumper cover technically not the entire assembly with brackets and foam and all. MommyTaz022200
A new bumper cover for my 91 escort it $578. That's just for the plastic, not the metal behind it and not installed. My ex kicked it and cracked the plastic so I called to see how much it was because I was going to ask the judge to make him pay for a new one, but the bumper costs more then the car is worth so I changed my mind. If I were in your shoes- I'd look for an OEM replacement on eBay or at the bone yard. There are alot of nice people here who can look in their area too. You might find one for $150 or even less. Then get it painted. I'm not sure how much painting it will cost but here a decent paint job for the whole car is around $800-1000 depending on color. Overall it looked okay, but the top corner wasn't shaped quite the same as OEM. I would spend extra to get OEM parts. The bumpers I've used have matched up fine.. never had a problem with them. It was the fenders that never worked out quite right. The trim never sat right on them, the gap at the top of the hood got wider as you went down toward the front, the top of the hood matched up with the fender, but again, as you went down toward the front of the car, the fender always ended up sticking above just ever so slightly. Aftermarket bumpers were fine by me.. but for the fenders, honestly spend the extra cash and get OEM. Like I said, it wasn't/isn't anything MAJOR... just little things that bother me. If you could live with it, get aftermarket. If its gonna irk you every time you see it, gotta go for the OEM.
