dohc v6 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 how many people have removed there maf sensor screen. i took it off and notice a little more hp and torque. does it increase mpg Quote
Dirty Rockstar Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 does it increase mpg If it does, min comes off TODAY! lol Quote
LukeZ34 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 94-96 DOHC's had a MAF screen, as well as 88 2.8's I believe. When I had my old Cutlass, I took it out, but it seemed to hurt performance more than anything, so it got put back in. Quote
99RegalGS Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 I took mine out awhile ago. Didn't notice anything. Quote
LukeZ34 Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 Whoops, forgot the 3800's had them too.. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 MAF screen... GM paid engineers to design it, people to prototype it, and materials/equipment to mass produce it, but its only purpose for existance is to rob HP & torque. Makes sense, no? Quote
brian89gp Posted March 23, 2004 Report Posted March 23, 2004 It smooths out the flow at low flow (idle and just off idle) to get accurate readings. If you have anything other then 8-10" of straight pipe on each side of it then you might want to keep it. Removing it will make the engine run a hair leaner which if you feel anything that is what it is. And someone flow tested a MAF with and without, there is very very little difference. Quote
sonyman87 Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 i believe we came to the conclusion that removing the screen was a bad idea.. it robs MPG and vertualy NO gain in performance. Quote
topless94style Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 I took mine out.....i really didnt notice much hp wise, but mpg hasnt been hurt at all. I still get 14-18mpg which is what i got when i bought the car. Quote
