R Dubya
whatup guys - quick question to anyone that might have knowledge here. I have an 89 TGP, just changed all the coils because one was bad, so 3 new GP Sorenson (sp) coils, and brand new R42LTS plugs, gapped at .040. The car is running real rough, same as it was with a bad coil, but the coil is still not getting spark, and when I have a helper turn the ignition, the new coil in the same spot as the bad one, I STILL get no spark! :x Is it possible for an ignition module to fail for just one coil? I thought it was done when it was done. Anyway, thanks in advance.
god910
I haven't heard of that happening, but not saying it won't. One thing to look at is, is it the wires fault? an open wire will not provide a groud. Therefore no spark. You would think that that many volts would FIND somewhere to go. Robby1870
It could be the ICM. I would change that. Get one from a junkyard or something or one you know works and see what that does
R Dubya
Thanks. I'm thinking thats what it is because I already tried swapping the front cylinders wire for another I had around, but I didn't notice a difference, but then again the plug may be fouled again. I'm gonna try again tomorrow and see whats happening. I know that the turbo is having issues with the seals, and in the next few weeks I will pull it to have it rebuilt. Think that may be contributing?
Jeff M
If more than one coil is not sparking, might be the crank sensor, I think it's easier to replace than coils Cheaper too 8) But really something that is common that should be replaced before it strands/pisses you off. R Dubya
I replaced the crank sensor when I bought my TG160 chip and replaced it per your recommendation. I am pulling the coils one more time to test the ICModule. IF that doesn't do it then I will check the crank sensor.
Guest Anonymous
My TGP did the same thing. No spark from one coil. It was the ICM.
R Dubya
That's what it was. I was so pissed at myself for not checking it. I had all the coils off and all I had to do was disconnect the module and go have it tested. Anyway, I did it this morning and it's running great again. Thanks for the reply though.
