MaroonRegal Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 Anybody know how to convert Cubic Feet/Minute into Pounds/Minute? Obviously this isn't a perfect conversion, because of altitude and other factors that involve the number of molecules per cubic foot, but there has to be some kind of general range for a conversion factor...I just can't find it. Anybody know? Thanks. Quote
MaroonRegal Posted March 5, 2004 Author Report Posted March 5, 2004 Okay, PaPaPooh just pointed out to me something i already should've known. There are 14.7 pounds of air in a square inch at sea-level. Quote
MaroonRegal Posted March 5, 2004 Author Report Posted March 5, 2004 That makes 176.4 lbs per cf at sea level. EDIT: Ok, that's wrong. There are 1728 inches in a cubic foot...not 12. That means there are 25,401.6 lbs/cf...that can't be right either. Now I'm not sure again. Quote

There's your problem a SQUARE inch cant have any volume, so it cant have weight. And, its 14.7 pounds of force per square inch of area at sea level....that what PSI means EDIT: all you need to do that conversion is the density of air in English units....I know it in Metric....but not in english Quote
WhiteOut Posted March 5, 2004 Report Posted March 5, 2004 PV=nRT p= 1 atm V= 28.3 L or 1 ft^3 n=??? R=0.8251 T=298 Kelvin or ~76*F Solve for n, n=0.1151 mol air MW of air =28.9 g/mol 3.326 g air OR 7.333e10-3 lbs. of air per cubic foot Assuming my memory is correct for the gas constant that should be pretty close.
