black35intrigue
Well it's been a long time since I have been on here. Needless to say I've got a few things accomplished on the Intrigue. When I bought it I raced it that same night and ran a 15.8 @90 mph. After that I made a custom Cold-Air intake made from 3.5" aluminum pipe and nice blue silicone couplers. I also ripped out the MAF screen. The intake looks like a boughten piece. and I had fun making my own PCM bracket but ran a 15.3 @ 93 mph. Now I have a transverse 40 series Flowmaster (F-body muffler) with chrome dual pipes and no resonator. And courtesy of my buddies at the body shop it exits one pipe on each side, and sounds bad-ass. According to G-Tech I'll run 15.0 @ 98 mph. We'll see as soon as the track opens. Now, I need traction, and lots of it. I smoke the tires like mad until I hit the rev limiter in 1st gear and the PCM kills power. The tarmac at the track helps this but I want street traction. whats the fattest tire this car can handle? The OSV intrigue had 255 35 R 19's on it, that can't possibly fit a production car though, the tires would hit the struts. I'm open to sizes cuz some nice 18-19 inch rims would look nice. I'm also looking for a 4t65 shift kit, or maybe manual so I won't break my tranny and possibly some PCM upgrades any Ideas? until later, Thanks Matt- 99 Black 3.5 intrigue GLS & 97 Tahoe 2door 4x4 supercharged 5.
sonyman87
well, you would probably get better times if you went with your stock 16inch rims. secondly if you have questions about the 4t65e hit up http://www.mymonte.com They are currently experimenting with shiftkits and there are some avalible. black35intrigue
Thanks for the reply. I checked out that website. I learned quite a bit about the 4t65.. I'll check into those kits. I was looking at getting some 17 inch wheels with 235 45 17's they are a tad smaller in diameter than stock for a bit more acceleration, and quite a bit wider due to the lo profile. J
i have 235/45/17's and they are wide but you could fit a 255 on that car no prob, the new montes come with a 255 on them, if u get tires get NITTO 555's best tire for traction on dry pavement and pretty good on the wet pavement also. NO KUMHO'S!! THEY BLOW!
rudefyet
NO KUMHO'S!! THEY BLOW! I second that! My Nissan 240SX had Kumho tires...no traction whatsoever
black35intrigue
I have found some nice looking 17's that I think I'll get. I know that Nitto is a good tire cuz my buddy runs them on his 97 T/A with a serious 383 in it and get's decent traction. I'll definately second the junk Kumho theory too, cuz i had some Kuhmo 295 50 22's on my Tahoe (blown 5.7) with a G80 locker and it would smoke em. I have some Yokohama's on it now, and I hook up pretty good. Anybody know just how hard my 4t65 will shift with a shift kit in it? The Trans-Go kit in my Tahoe (4L60) will bark if not break the tires loose each time. Also, I read today that the 3.5 was originally going to produce around 240 HP with a 7,000 RPM redline, but the tranny can't handle 7 G's so they de-tuned it and redline it at 6,500. I want that power.. Who can tune my PCM for that?? Matt 99 Intrigue 3.5 GLS & 97 2 door 4x4 Tahoe Blown 5.
jamcneely
I'm sporting some 245/40/18's on my 98 Intrigue. They fit just fine, in fact the OD on those tires are 1/2" shorter then the OD on the stock 225/60/16's, so I also went with Eibach's 1" drop springs to take up the extra wheel gap. I'll tell ya, 1" on that car makes a bigger different than you think it would! It looks pretty good if you ever decide to go that route. As far as tires go I work at a Tire Shop, I run Toyo Proxes 4's. They do great, but they're more of a road tire though. I'm pretty sure you can also fit those 255/35/19's that were on the OSV. The tires aren't too wide, its more in the wheel you go with if your going to hit the sturt or not. I've put 20's on my car before without them hitting the strut. I don't know how hard the trans will shift with a kit. I'm sure you have already found the one made by Trans-Go called Thrasher, apperently you can tailor the kit for how hard of shifts that you want. I would write to Trans-Go for the specs. I'll probably do that myself to, and post it when I do. If a shift kit is in the works I'd also go a limited slip final drive, so far I've only found one made by C-YA Racing here is a link that has that and the Trans-Go kit for sale http://www.3800performance.com/vehicles/grand_prix_97_03_miva.htm you might be able to get them for less some place else, I just haven't looked hard enough yet. Also if your looking for any body kits for it, besides that gay ass looking Razzi kit. go to http://www.knightsperformance.com/ its some guy out of Canada that made one badass Intigue and is making his own body kits just for Intrigues. Let me know what cool shit for Intrigues you have found. You already know Performance Parts for these cars are few and far between especially since you have the 3.5. Also, do you have pics of your car?

jamcneely
I'm sure he meant that the Outside Diameter of the 17" wheel and the 235 45 17 tire is shorter than the stock 16" wheel with the stock 225 60 16 tire, the side wall on the stock is much taller which makes up for the lack of wheel. jamcneely
cause the stock is a bit to narrow for that wide of a tire, it would kind of pinch the tire in, and put excessive wear in the center of the tread face. That doesn't that mean you can't do that though. It would fit without rubbing. Its just that going up in diameter with a wider tire would be better option for what he wants to do because that would give him a larger contact patch, and has better options for making the OD a bit samller so that he has more low end torque. Plus he could go a light alloy which is lighter per inch than rubber which would lighten up the whole wheele tire assembly, therefore hes that much lighter going down the track, and has that much less rotating mass to get started off the line, and to stop at the end. black35intrigue
Actually, I'm in the process of getting some pictures up on the internet soon. I was doing some other research and came up with a place called mech-tech who uses the short-star for off-roading, he's got that thing turbo-charged with custom headers making over 400 HP!!! That's what my Intrigue needs!! I bought one of those thrasher shift kits, and I'll be installing that soon we'll see what that does. After looking at soo many wheels available. I want Vette Z-06 wheels. I need to find a way to make 'em bolt on. as for the body kits, I've tried contacting knights many times before, they never email me back. That Intrigue of his is Bad-Ass as for other cool accessories, I've made them all cuz nothing exists.. Matt
